+1

I always have a hard time understanding people from the UK, but he did a good job at speaking, never the less even if he had a crappy mic

Episode 2's guest has a much better mic You'll hear that next week
#1.4 Airlink on 11 Mar 2009 - 14:25
I don't know if it's the mic or if he just has a lousy chat client. It sounds like he'd talking through a small cardboard tube.
#1.5 Daninku on 13 Mar 2009 - 18:22
I guess it's even more difficult for us non English speaking to understand this :p

I think that maybe the point, slightly? (although I am just guessing).

Nonetheless, I really do love the intro

Wasn't trying to be cheesy. Though I can tell you the "don't mess with him or else ___________ will be part of every staff members opening.

Fair enough Well, I love it anyway!

I look forward to hearing what the "don't mess with him/her or else" parts are for everyone else

Haha, "fleshborn"... I never thought of it like that

how can we meet staff with no vid?
#4.1 Calum on 10 Mar 2009 - 23:45
You can hear them...? Why do you need a video? When it comes to "meeting" people, what difference is their between a seeing them in a video and hearing them in a podcast?

Unless we did a webcam interview, I think this is as close as your going to get?
(5 replies) #5 hkgonra on 10 Mar 2009 - 23:06
This thread is useless without pics
#5.1 Calum on 10 Mar 2009 - 23:45
How is it useless? I found the podcast very informative and learnt a lot about Daniel.
#5.2 Kudos on 10 Mar 2009 - 23:54
Pics wouldn't be a bad idea, I have no idea what Dan looks like either.
#5.3 lylesback2 on 11 Mar 2009 - 00:08
I guess it's a personal preference if people wish to show a picture of themselves inside their bios
#5.4 Chris-Gonzales on 11 Mar 2009 - 01:48
Its a podcast, doesn't need pics. If this was a webpage with staff bios, then yeah, but I'm sure his picture is somewhere on the net, if you search hard for it

I agree that pictures would be a good idea, I just don't think it is "useless" without pictures

His first computer was positively SUPERB! POWER MONSTER! My first PC was an Amstrad 1512 !

I suspect he's younger than me but hey.
#6.1 iamwhoiam on 11 Mar 2009 - 01:23
Mine was an Altair.

back then.

Glad everyone is enjoying the podcast. Starting with Episode 2 the editing was done and will continue to be done in audacity. With that will come much better audio levels. Episode 2's guest also had a much better mic, so tune in next week.

Just what Neowin needs! A great podcast!

I can hardly hear the voice in the beginning because the music is too loud. I stopped listening because I couldn't understand Daniel. Awful mic or compression quality--either way

Yep I feel your pain. Starting with episode 2 all of that will be much better.
#9.2 lylesback2 on 11 Mar 2009 - 00:20
The quality should hopefully be greatly better next week! Warwagon's voice is much more projected than Daniel's in this episode.
#10 indiansboy94 on 10 Mar 2009 - 23:48
I liked the first episode. Looking forward to the next one!

So you think it is a good idea to do podcasts which will cause deaf people or people with difficulity to understand to miss out. Deaf guy here
#11.1 Rob on 11 Mar 2009 - 00:24
This podcast is not a core service offering from Neowin but an augmented bonus. As such, it's unfortunate that we don't have the resources at present to produce transcripts for the episodes, but we've taken your feedback on board. On a side note however, your point would be better received had you simply requested that a transcript be considered rather than complaining about the podcast as a whole.
#11.2 +warwagon on 11 Mar 2009 - 00:43
I should just play it back to dragon naturally speaking

Thank you Warwagon for producing such a cool series. I really look forward to "meeting" the rest of the staff members. Also thank you Daniel for being brave and going first! Nice to meet you!

pretty cool actually good job guys

I say we have a contest to see which staff member uses the most 'erm' or 'er' fillers.

My favourite line: "Running Neowin is like running a small city". Hmmm.... I have to agree with the above comments regarding quality of sound. It sounded as thought his mic was in another room. Full credit to the interviewer though, his voice was much more up to the job!

Would be nice to have an RSS feed so I can use iTunes to subscribe to the Meet the Staff podcast. I hate having to download and manually add media to my library, especially since this will be an ongoing series.

Great idea.
Very good and funny podcast.
Is Warwagon interviewing ? Your voice reminds me Jeff Anderson.
