Google ads might be watching you

Advertisement (Why?)
Google plans to expand its advertising campaign by watching user's habits and displaying advertisements based on your interests through web sites you visit. The advertisements will be displayed on any web site with Google Ads running on it with the content of your interest, no matter what web site you visit.

The change is to help catch target audiences by displaying categories of their interest to improve clicks. User's visiting many technology related web sites may see only technology related advertisements even on non-technology related web sites, like sports web sites.

Privacy concerns have been address by Google as many fear that Google might be watching users on the internet, and will give the option to opt out of the program. User's who do not wish for Google to track the web sites they browse can do so at any time by clicking on the "Ads By Google" found on any web site with Google advertisements displayed on it, which brings them to "Ads Preferences Manager" allowing users to disable the tracking.

Google also stated that sensitive interests including race, religion, sexual orientation or certain types of financial or health concerns will not be targeted by the program. The tracking program, that places a small cookie on the user's machine, will not contain users search data or any information from other Google services including Gmail.

Just another reason to block ads. Anymore it is hard to tell which are good and which are bad.

Then I'd better put on some clothes. I don't want Google to see my Wee Wee.

That will happen if google creates a webcam: The Gcam. Same cameras they use on the google street view cams

In equally shocking news, the sky might be blue today.

Just like it was yesterday.

And will continue to be until the sky is no more.

Well I'd rather get ads relivent to my interest than crap.

Thank fully there are users realize without ads the internet would not have evolved.

Someones gotta pay for freeloaders that block.

PS each time you load any page it costs website owners money, your ISP don't pay them!

I rather have no ads, but if it helps out a site I really like, then I have no problem. I disable ads anyway

So why disable them?
#5.3 +Frazell Thomas on 11 Mar 2009 - 23:41
That is why I prefer to pay for sites. It is disgusting to me that the majority of sites only offer a ad supported option. The ad model is a sick one in my opinion.

Looks like I'll be getting plenty of "Meet Singles in your Area" then.

You could, ummm go out and meet them in person you know?
#6.2 Kojio on 11 Mar 2009 - 21:43
Can you imagine if those "Singles" were matched with you using tracking data from Google's ad sense and browsing habits?

I'm not sure whether to think that as being entirely creepy or pretty awesome. It would be interesting to meet someone that shares the same browsing habits as me. How accurate can browsing habits and tracking data predict an individual's personality and taste? Would two people with similar browsing habits be compatible with each other? I think those are interesting questions.

Besides, I would rather Google shove real singles ads down my throat, instead of fake accounts and pictures stolen from craigslist personals.

If it means fewer gay dating agency ads, I'm all for it.

Ads are based on your viewing history so um...

Kidding.

Ads? What are they again? FF+AdblockPlus, can't remember. Now IE8+InPrivateFiltering, nice. Ads schmads. F google! LOL w00t
#8.1 The XO on 12 Mar 2009 - 15:32
Exactly right IntelliMoo. I have blocked them for so long myself. My router has a nice feature that blocks keywords (ads) that helps me out as well. Always have a backup plan!

This is one reason why a Google OS will never see the day of light.

yay, porn everywhere! =D
#10.1 The XO on 12 Mar 2009 - 15:33
Lol, isn't that a fact!
#11 Adam_Brown on 11 Mar 2009 - 23:32
Am I only one, who doesn't care about Google Ads. I dont look at them, it is that simple. They are unobtrusive, and quite simply do no harm, so they are watching what I'm doing on the net? So what!, Perhaps it might bring up something useful, you dont know that it wont. I dont see the point in Ad Block anyway.

Google ads will not be watching me.
#12.1 The XO on 12 Mar 2009 - 15:37
I agree that they will not be watching me either. These companies are given us more reason to block ads, I wonder if they get it yet!
