In a press release this morning, NVIDIA announced that it is looking to invest in, and support, early stage companies that produce or develop products which make use of the GPU. As of this morning, a new webpage on the NVIDIA website was launched (named the GPU Ventures Program), which explains how businesses can submit their proposals.The investments are expected to be between $500,000 and $5 million, although NVIDIA also explained in the statement that they may also help with marketing, development and product distribution, depending on the partnership. Although NVIDIA did not state what, if anything, it would get back in exchange for this, as the Business Journal pointed out, NVIDIA may take minority stakes in the companies it invests in.
"The GPU Ventures Program represents a huge opportunity for young ambitious companies basing their businesses around the GPU. These companies are the innovators that will fuel the continued growth of the GPU platform," said Jeff Herbst, vice president of business development at NVIDIA. "Through this program we will provide financial, marketing and other support to help start-up companies realize their full potential and we strongly encourage interested entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and others to reach out to us with their ideas," he added.
NVIDIA is also evaluating new companies which make use of its parallel computing architecture, CUDA - typically for scientific, medical or financial purposes.
Some of the companies they have previously invested in have made some pretty clever applications.

Regarding the problems you had it was probably a bunch of bad luck, like I had with a few ATI cards, yet I'm not bashing here on them. They got replaced and worked like a charm. If on the other hand yours kept frying even after getting replaced then i'm afraid something else was causing it.
They are trying to promote their GPU capabilities, if to do that they chose to help financially some projects I'm all for it. It might help a lot of companies to pull off some interesting new software.
As the poster above me said, I think you may have just had bad luck with your NVIDIA cards, as I have never had a problem with mine. However, with ATI, I had two cards, both of which after 30 minutes would overheat (both were from the same series too). But again, it must have just been bad luck.
As for the new MBPs overheating, blame NVIDIA all you want but its Apples fault as well for not testing what they put in their systems.
Are you kidding me? Your statement applies to ATI more than NVIDIA. I think NVIDIA is doing this in an effort to help boost the economy. I believe they are doing this with a good will to help stimulate the economy rather than spending rotten and wasteful spending on their own and watch the market collapse. If anything, we need a lot more companies to follow suit with this approach. Digix, I find your statement parallel to those greedy corporate giants that is failing.
