We are currently downloading and installing the iPhone 3.0 software beta. The event will be covered via CoverItLive, a service that allows us to communicate with members directly and post updates whenever one comes in. Whether you have an iPhone or not, we hope this Q&A of sorts will help everyone to understand what Apple has added to this software update.

Yes. Sign up for a free ADC account and download it, once their servers pick up.

@XiXora, it's not warez, we have people enrolled in the development program.

You must be enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program to access the development resources for iPhone OS 3.0 beta

An adc account is free and you get access to the full sdk and dev resources.

SDK, yes. iPhone firmware for 3.0, no.

Correction: the 3.0 is not available to free ADC accounts yet. Probably not until it is final in the Summer.

For anyone getting the HTTP/1.1 Service Unavailable issue, you can workaround it using http://www.blogitech.co.uk/2009/get-access...iphone-30-beta/

Tried that myself, no dice.

Word on the street: Installing the 3.0 software makes irreversible changes to your device.
#5.1 excalpius on 18 Mar 2009 - 17:08
Excuse me? Nothing is "irreversible" when you can reflash the drive...

"By installing iPhone 3.0 beta on your Test Devices, these devices are permanently "locked" into testing mode and cannot be restored!"
#6.1 Shunik Jan on 18 Mar 2009 - 05:50
What about DFU mode and Shift + Restore to 2.2.1 in iTunes?
#6.2 excalpius on 18 Mar 2009 - 17:10
Exactly. A complete reflash etc?! It isn't possible to permanently lock the device from being reflashed or else it could never be repaired, let alone upgraded. Hopefully a clarification is forthcoming.

It includes an update to the baseband, which is difficult to reverse. The new baseband is, I assume, compatible with nothing less than iPhone OS 3.0.
