Microsoft has just announced an update to one of my favorite applications, Live Mesh. Today's update includes numerous bug fixes and included four new features for the Windows version of the client. The version number is: Live Mesh for Windows: 0.9.3424.31.

The new features include:
  • Added option to hide the Live Mesh folder shortcuts on your desktop.
  • Live Mesh now remembers the last location used in the folder synchronization dialog.
  • Live Mesh News will now display the date (as well as the time) for all news items, even older ones.
  • Curtain mode now properly supports multiple-monitor computers running Windows Vista.

Bug fixes include:
  • Improved the update experience.
  • Fixed display driver issue when disabling curtain mode.
  • Optimized MOE CPU/memory use.
  • Fixes to Live Mesh Remote Desktop performance and rendering.
  • Device status (online/offline) now properly displayed on the Live Desktop, in the notifier, and in the Mesh bar.
  • News now correctly displays the year.
  • Fixed issue where Live Mesh Remote Desktop caused all Windows 7 windows to have black borders.

With Live Mesh, you can synchronize files with all of your devices, so you always have the latest versions handy. Access your files from any device or from the web, easily share them with others, and get notified whenever someone changes a file.

You can view our very detailed overview of Live Mesh here. The update is now available on the Live Mesh Website.

When is mesh going to becomre more than just a syncing tool?

When can I download a Mail App that is synced across all my computers, without the need to use IMAP. If I could login to mesh.com see my mail there, use the mail app on the desktop which runs on mesh...etc.

When can I have a sweet gadgets that run on mesh as well as my desktops and phones?

WLM already does that. Mesh is supposed to be for file synchronization. I suppose you could create a Mesh folder and point your mail app to it for storage, though.

I didn't know that. Maybe they're just waiting til Mesh gets closer to release?

I was able to add the Mesh Pack applications via the "Apps" link on the LM web portal.

Yeah the idea is you would have smart applications that would be "sycned". Like Mail apps or a Live Mesh gadget bar, where you could view the temperature and fan speeds of all your computers from your live desktop and from each individual computers.

There is a home automation app concept on on10. Neat things can be done, but will they?

The apps I added disappeared after a few minutes. I guess there's still some bugs. It looks like they're integrating Mesh with Azure, so I'm betting we'll start seeing some nifty stuff soon.

Damn... Was hoping they would add an option to go back to a previous version.
Nice having the files synchronised but dont trust it as a backup medium... Dropbox has this feature.

Any word on when Live Essentials wave 4 is coming? Although Mesh is not part of the suite, I am sureprised that updates for some Live apps are seperate from the suite.

And the guy above who knew nothing about Windows Live Mail is not surprising. Microsoft so poorly advertises what is the best mail client I have ever used.

Nothing to announce on Wave 4 just yet, but we know Microsoft has been extremely quiet in regards to upcoming features and revisions. Shouldn't be too long now until we get word about a beta.

so, how does one update this when you have it installed? There is nothing about installing a newer version.

Do you have UAC turned off? If so, you might need to turn it on. After this update, you can leave UAC off. Look here: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/Live...91-d7f0d72f467b

So, when I'll be able to encrypt my Mesh folder on my work pc? It's a great tool for syncing folders, but it's useless unless I can hide them on my work pc from other people.

Mesh is great for syncing files, but is troublesome when trying to get through coorporate firewalls... hopefully Microsoft solves that soon.

I think some corporations may have a problem with you syncing work files with your home computer. Depending on the nature of your work.

I really like this program, but I've found that it is pretty easy to confuse it. I wish there was a "sync now" button somewhere.

God yes, Theres nothing I hate more than having changed a file, then go to a lecture and find that the file isn't uploaded yet.

Hope Microsoft keeps showing the love for this application.

The Wicked Mesh while restarting my taskbar turned off my quick launch and destroyed the order of icons. Maybe, they tested it only Windows 7 giving step-treatment to Vista and XP.
#9.1 cpenner on 24 Mar 2009 - 23:04
Ummm... no... They wouldn't make any "Windows 7 exclusive" programs considering it hasn't even been released yet...

love it
