Last week Apple unveiled its 3.0 software for iPhone but had nothing to say about the possibility of a new device this summer.

Rumours are heating up and according to one story by The boy genius report we can expect a new iPhone announcement mid-June. The blog confirms the following:

  • New iPhone will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device
  • U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)
  • The annual iPhone launch is "becoming a tradition."
  • Nothing official is being confirmed, but they said that people should prep for an exciting time this summer.
  • AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
If the rumours are true then expect to see a few blurry photos and some specs leaking in the next couple of months.

Wow! What a surprise!

U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)

I doubt this one. For one thing, it doesn't have the "i" prefix :p

It would be awesome, let's wait another 3 months to see if it's true
I don't know how they could make it, unless they add an infrared LED in the iPhone to command such devices (well I believe they work with LEDs, I'm no specialist lol)

I do that with my MOXI DVR from Charter's web site. It's handy.

@PsykX: Some DVRs have a web interface. Perhaps that's how it works?

I don't like the fact that AT&T has locked up the IPhone solely to itself. Then again, all the other phone companies lock up specific phone models to their systems as well so they are equally villainous.

I thought it was only a 2 year deal with AT&T.. after that it was supposed to be opened up to other networks... I am guessing that has never happened?...

Remember apple originally asked verizon first and verizon said no. So verizon only has themselves to blamme.

And it is the American model.

In Europe no specific telephones or vendors are locked to certain Service Providers (well, except Apple). You can buy the same telephone (any telephone) from any network provider you like. Actually you can even buy only the telephone from a shop and then a Sim-Only subscription from the network provider.

The more you pay for the monthly subscription fees the cheaper the telephone gets, and there is almost always an option to get it for free.

And in a lot of European countries they either may not lock the telephone, or they have to give away the unlock codes after a certain period of time, e.g. 1 year.

Ah, but can you schedule a show to record while you're sitting on the subway?

Never will have a need to do that. Tv is not THAT important to me.

Pretty bland predictions. Here's mine:

- Faster processer, double the capacity
- New GPU (focus on games, multimedia)
- Major improvements in battery life
- Video recording, 5mp cammera (xenon flash) as well as a 2mp front facing camera for video chat (US may not like it, but Europe does)
- Flash? ("The older iPhones can't support such a battery drain"
- MobileME refresh

How come you predict a MobileMe refresh?

Man! hope they bring down the price here in India for this new phone, it still freaking costs 35,000 Rs = 700$ for a 8gb iPhone here.

"The annual iPhone launch is "becoming a tradition."

Somehow I can't see this as a new feature. Not that it was implied though...

All of these rumored features don't excite me 1 bit. They are all Lame if you ask me
