Thanks to eagle eyed Neowin visitor ThePhoenix, we've spotted that Microsoft have published the Windows 7 RC page at TechNet a little too early.

The page indicates it is due to be published in May 2009 and that the Windows 7 RC will expire on June 1, 2010. It has been rumoured that the RC will be ready in April for testers but Microsoft could make the RC available publicly in May if this publishing mistake is correct.

According to Windows chief Steven Sinofsky, the build will be available broadly so this is a clear confirmation that Microsoft plans to push the near final build out to potential customers and enthusiasts world wide, very soon.

Unless this is a seperate date for full public access, wasn't it originally supposed to be coming in April?

There were already rumours floating around that it had been pushed back to May - seems those rumours are true.

can i upgrade my beta to rc?

#5.1 Beastage on 26 Mar 2009 - 21:01
I will say, so far all builds of Windows 7 were upgradable to later builds, in a smooth operation.

yes you prob will be able to upgrade from beta to rc, you will need to download the .iso though. Upgrading from beta's isn't advised of course, clean format is recommended.

I'm not bothered when RC1 comes out, just want windows 7 to be as bug free and stable as humanly possible, i can wait 6 months for it no problem, build 7057 is stable enough for me.

The upgrade process got a bad reputation for no reason really, so far I upgraded Vista 64bit -> win7 7000 -> 7048 -> 7057 and it is working good.

Indeed. I'm hesitant on jumping onto the Windows 7 bandwagon, even though I was an early adopter of Vista. I've been using Vista for the better part of 3 years now, and have grown comfortable with it. If the price is right for an upgrade to W7, then I'll do it immediately but until then I'll stick with Vista.

TechNet and MSDN does not necessarly mean when RC will be out... Beta testers usually get stuff BEFORE MSDN and TechNet.. so it might be a week, it might be a month, you never know

Is this the public date or technet date. does this mean technet and msdn subscribers could still get it earlier?

The page has been edited, finally
It now reads
Welcome to the Windows 7 Beta Customer Preview Program
Published: February 2009

I noticed yesterday the BBC News site said
Windows 7 is expected to be released at the start of 2010. A "release candidate" for users to try out will be available at the end of May.
#14.1 Calum on 27 Mar 2009 - 11:24
I'm pretty sure the release candidate will be out near the start/middle of May.

As for the final version of Windows 7. I'd guess RTM in July/August and release to the public in October/November.
