Microsoft is currently working on SP2 for Office 2007 and could be ready to release a final version as early as this month.

Today an early copy has leaked to BitTorrent according to Windows Vista Magazine.

The file weighs in at 287.14 MB and is named office2007sp2-kb953195-fullfile-en-us.exe. It's not clear whether the leaked copy is a beta, RC or final version of SP2 but the EULA states "012.0_B2TR_PRE.0_BTA_EN" meaning it it's likely to be a test version. The build number is 12.0.6416.1000, compared to Microsoft Office 2007 SP1 which has the build version of 12.0.6331.5000.

SP2 will support Open Document Format (ODF), XML Paper Specification (XPS) and Portable Document Format (PDF).

The Office Sustained Engineering Blog reported that Office 2007 SP2 would be released between February and April this year, so hopefully RTM isn't too far off (assuming the leaked version isn't it)...

If you're waiting for the promised Outlook performance improvements, you can already get those is the form of a cumulative hot fix available from Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/961752

It's like an April Fool's joke. WTH, an Office Service Pack (BETA) being leaked to the Internet... Oh my, how low can you go?
I think I'll manage to contain myself until the RTM version is on the MS website... Or a couple more months thereafter - lol...

Microsoft is currently working on SP2 for Office 2007 and could be ready to release a final version as early as Q1 2009.

It's like Q2 now already...

Who the hell bloody cares about a Service Pack release, there are no critical issues with the software that I MUST get Service Pack x now. Installing Pre-Release service packs are a waste of time.

Who says it's pre-release?

Its same with ANY beta software, do you NEED it? Nope, would you want it? Depends on you compleatly. I dont "need" every week another win7 build, but would i want it? yes i would. Why not having computer updated to latest updates (sometimes beta) if you CAN? Unless you cba, then i get it, but dont come here and complain that using "serivce packs" is pointless, if in relaity you are happy without runing SPs at all. Enjoy WinXP (without SP) and Office 2000 (without SP again).

Unlike Win builds, Office SP is a few mins update.

SPs increase performance = better productivity
SPs fixes annoying bugs (for example Outlook sometimes shows numbers like 45546546749879 in junk mail) = better productivity

Better productivity = more money.

Do I need more money? Fu*k yeah.

"Microsoft is currently working on SP2 for Office 2007 and could be ready to release a final version as early as Q1 2009."

Didn't Q1 end on March 31?
#8.1 lawtai on 02 Apr 2009 - 10:58
It's possible they're fiscal quarter and the calendar quarter are different. Some companies Q1 actually starts in July.
#8.2 excalpius on 02 Apr 2009 - 11:14
And this also says COULD BE READY, which also means MIGHT NOT BE.

Hilarious, I see what you did there.

Sorry to tell you people but it's the Beta that was released back in December. The build string is exactly the same and EULA says it's pre-lease software. If you got the Beta back in December don't bother getting this.
#12 boogerjones on 02 Apr 2009 - 15:34
Definitely a beta. Digital signature of the file is from 12/6/2008.

Sweet, native support for PDF/XPS. Can't wait. <3
Not being able to edit PDF files is annoying to me

The PDF format is for distribution. It wasn't designed for editing. However, some basic stamping, watermarking, pagination for existing PDF files would be nice. But let's face it: Microsoft ain't gonna provide those features. I'm just hoping they'll support newer formats with improved encryption.
#17 snuffy on 03 Apr 2009 - 10:35
^^^ really? I don't have this ability in my SP2

Read this Softpedia.com article about the "leaked" Office 2007 SP2 build:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Office-2007...ad-108397.shtml

I totally agree with lee26 and boogerjones. This "leaked" SP2 build is a Beta and NOT the final release. AVOID getting it, folks! Wait for the REAL THING to be posted at Office Update/Microsoft Update or at the Microsoft Download Center, which will have a slightly newer build number than the "leaked" edition.

I sense a delay in the actual release of Office 2007 SP2.
