iPhone 3.0: Evidence of video, auto-focus camera and more

What's this? More Apple rumors? Well, that doesn't come as a surprise, at least not to me. Alas, this one comes with a twist; there's screenshots. That's right, we've finally got screenshot evidence of video recording coming to an upcoming revision of Apple's iPhone, so that hopefully makes things a bit more feasible.

Ours friends over at MacRumors have discovered all these juicy details, deep within the configuration files of Apple's latest iPhone 3.0 beta. As mentioned, this should remove any previous uncertainty about video recording being featured in the next iPhone. There has been a few configuration files, such as: "Auto-Focus Camera", which is fairly self explanatory. "Magnetometer" was also discovered, so this means that a digital compass type feature will be coming also, and lastly "Voice Control" was found. These three files are relatively solid evidence, so it's hard to doubt them. We know why you're here, though... screenshots. Well, take a look below and see for yourself.

As you can see, the video interface is the same as the camera interface, except it features a toggle switch in order to shift between the two functions. This was discovered by modifying the configuration files in the OS 3.0 beta to tell it that there was a video camera present; only then did this new interface show itself.

There you have it, folks. Solid evidence. With all these new features rumored to be coming, it will be good to see most of the common complaints with Apple's iPhone removed. Thoughts?

Yeah, removed only if you buy the new upgraded iPhone. I still don't see why if a jailbroken iPhone can do video, they can't add it to all iPhones, not just a new model.

Something about read/write issues to the NAND memory, or something. Kevin Rose explained it, heh, I'm no expert.

lol bull****...its apple so its more like:

we want you to pay another 300 dollars getting a phone that has the features the previous models should have had but we were to lazy to put in.

Hey, at least they're giving you all the cool stuff in OS 3.0!

Nah, they put whatever they want to. Or else tell me of one product that has it all for everyone.
It wouldn`t be The Jesus Phone. We would be talking about God`s Phone.

Kevin Rose? Well maybe he repeated what the dude said at the Apple presentation about the new iPhone firmware

Basically it would cause instability when writing and reading on the memory.

lol Copy & Paste and Push aren't really 'cool' ... I mean, they are welcome features don't get me wrong, I am just saying they should have been there from the start. It seems like Apple is working backwards with these so called 'upgrades' they are adding. I am getting a little more critical of them since they are really going to make you buy a new phone to get video.

Wow.. thats evidence is it???

The iphone is leaps and bounds ahead of most other devices, yet it also seems to be so far behind...!!!

"The iphone is leaps and bounds ahead of most other devices, yet it also seems to be so far behind...!!!"

That's actually very very true.

Personally, I believe the rumour of video. However.... it is still a rumour, and that "screenshot" above doesn't prove a thing. It certainly isn't "Solid evidence" and doesn't "remove any previous uncertainty".

Now if that screenshot was on apple.com, then that would be different...

Would be a bit random?

It's pretty much confirmed. The way they got it to come up with the video options makes sense. To me, the screenshot is conclusive enough. It wasn't just a random user that posted it, it's from MacRumors themselves. Depends how much you trust them, I guess.

Hopefully it will allow 640x480 video recording and not only the crappy 320x240.

What??? I want full 1920x1200 video recording! This IS 2009 after all!!!

... Joking Or am I?

It'd be nice to have these Photo Booth effets directly into the iPhone, like, you know, put a very similar interface there
#4.1 PureLegend on 08 Apr 2009 - 10:02
That would be good! But it might hit performance and clutter up the UI :/

What I don't understand is if they didn't want this information known why they didn't strip out the video recording stuff altogether in the public beta
