Facebook hits 200 million users

Today marks the date that Facebook has grown to 200 million users strong. Facebook achieved its first 100 million users on August 26, 2008, since launching its service in February 2004. With such an exponential growth in the company, taking it almost a 4 and a half years to achieve the first 100 million, and half a year to achieve the last 100 million.

As Mark Zuckerberg and his 700+ strong staff celebrate, the popular social networking web site still needs to overcome one more hurdle to claim dominance, MySpace. Still king of the hill with roughly 275 million users strong, closing into the 300 million mark, it still proves to be the strongest social networking web site. MySpace opened its doors in August 2003, giving it roughly half a year ahead of Facebook.

Facebook has published this video to show its support in marking this special occasion of hitting 200 million users.

If FB reached 100M in August 2008 and 200M now, that's only half a year, not a year and a half. Something's off in that first paragraph.

Anyways, that's awesome news. Facebook really is a great way to connect with people.

So is facebook. Plus, the "crap" are from these little 14 year olds screaming about nonsence and the spam is mostly from those 35 year old men still living at home wioth their mothers

#6.1 timster on 09 Apr 2009 - 01:36
doubt it. it's probably just 200m accounts that have gone though the system

le sigh.

IMHO Facebook is utter crap. Myspace is utter crap.

I use Myspace though, to keep in contact with my friends from different states, as well as to promote for my job. Facebook is useless to me and seems more cluttered and boring.

i, can't seem to get into facebook... i use it, but only to add past and present friends every now and again for contact purposes at some point lol

Facebook connects me with hundreds of people I've known throughout my life, from my early school years to today. And it does so pretty darn well. If you don't like it, why post here?

In my case:
For important person i keep their contact in my cellphone.
For the not so important group of person, i keep the list of person in my email listbook.
and for the rest.. i don't really care to have a registry of such people.

I have a lot of friends back in school but truly they are not my friends anymore so its pointless to try some sort of forced contact with they.

Yes, you can keep such information but is still is silly.
