With more and more coverage of the latest iPhone firmware 3.0, the secrets about Apple's new iPhone hardware are becoming more of a reality without any official details or announcements from Apple itself.

Many developers have managed to get their hands on the latest iPhone firmware 3.0 for development, and unlocked a lot of features thus far. One nice feature is having a percentage battery indicator on the top right of your iPhone to tell you just how low your battery is becoming.

I like the percentage for the battery gauge.

Wonder if it's going to be in the iPod Touch? AFAIK the Touch doesn't have the usage thing, so unless they add that or move the setting, Touch users get stuck with non percentage, right?

On my not-jailbroken iPod Touch, i just touch the battery icon, and it becomes a %

Seems redundant that the battery icon is there with the percentage. They should replace the one with the other, just wasting space. Then again, unless its jailbroken you don't need all that room

You must have jailbroken it at one point and then restored it from a backup - as the setting is changed in a preference file.

I don't know why they didn't just use that method - it's already available, after all.

Like the "Bluetooth module" piece of hardware, and the FM tuner (or transmitter) discovered in the Touch

You can already get percentage battery gauge if your phone's jailbroken, nothing new :/
#3.1 lylesback2 on 08 Apr 2009 - 01:42
Umm yeah but this is not jailbroken devices, this comes standard on the iPhone 3.0 firmware. Believe it or not, many consumers do NOT jailbreak their device, or have no idea it even exists. Let alone, modding your iPhone using WinterBoard

Jailbreaking your phone also opens the possibility of instability.

Don't know what you mean by that; my iPod touch runs perfectly, and it's stable. Can't remember the last time it froze up on me.

Safari crashes constantly. And mine has crashed when I try to start up spacedeadbeef.

My safari crashes constantly too... Could be a jailbroken problem, but i'm still running 2.2

It does? I can't remember the last time my Safari crashed either. The only browser issues I've had is once when it froze whilst I was using Tweetie's built in one :p Maybe I'm just lucky.

Mine's not jailbroken, so thats not the problem. Safari is known to be buggy(hence why newer updates list "Improved stability of Safari" in their patch notes).
#3.10 bobbit on 08 Apr 2009 - 05:18
?? I haven't had a Safari crash on 2.2.1 yet and I use it pretty heavily :

Not if you want to be able to record video on your 3G/original. Or if you want to use Java or .Net based apps. Or if you want to skin your iPhone. Or if you want to unlock it. Or if you even want to use your iPhone for storage.

So, yeah, not so dead.
#4.3 sin-ergy on 08 Apr 2009 - 12:14
Well, I don't think it's dead.....but I restored mine after noticing considerable slowdown with my jailbroken iphone. I couldn't believe how much faster everything ran after restoring!

I didn't say anything 'coz I wrote about it earlier in that other article, about the auto-focus cam etc. It's great they're including it though... if it works well, of course.

#7 hotdog963al on 08 Apr 2009 - 12:29

Keep it minimal please
#8 astrokat on 08 Apr 2009 - 17:14
These screenies are fake - i hate to say.
Correction: They may be real, but this is not 3.0.
(1 reply) #9 pyehac on 08 Apr 2009 - 17:16
If this goes to the iPod touch, I'll need a reason to buy a new iPod

*ipod touch mysteriously falls infront of a car and gets run over*
#9.1 RangerLG on 08 Apr 2009 - 21:03
The 3.0 firmware will be available for the Touch. It will cost $9.95.
