Steve Jobs still involved with Apple, working on tablet

Steve Jobs may be off work at the moment, folks, but that doesn't mean he isn't working. That's right, even after taking a leave of absence from Apple, co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs is still involved with the major projects that Apple is working on right now. According to AppleInsider, Jobs played a big part in the recent iPhone OS 3.0 release, and is apparently working on a tablet-size device, bigger than an iPhone but smaller than a MacBook.

Rumors about an Apple tablet have been flying around for ages, even more so lately, but if sources close to Jobs himself say he's working on it, then there's a good chance that there's something going on. Also, recent reports of Apple ordering 10" touchscreens might have something to do with it. All the signs are pointing towards a device being released in the next year or so, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Here's an interesting thought, as well; if Steve Jobs was to spend longer outside of office, Apple apparently has a roadmap for the next few years already planned out. This isn't the case, and Jobs is still expected to be back at Apple by the end of June, perhaps in time for the WWDC.

Actually, they already did many years ago, it was called the Newton. It had a 6" screen at the time.

???? invention??
#2.3 Airlink on 12 Apr 2009 - 13:35
Um.. the Newton wasn't a Tablet PC. It was a PDA. And it sucked. Which is why it failed.

There really is a very fine line between the two, especially when you are talking about a PDA with a 6" screen. Neither term existed at the time.

Copying an old idea is definitely Apple but it's not inventing, not by a long shot.

I loved my Newton MP 2000... Until Apple dropped support for it like it was radioactive.

Yeah, like Apple never released the eMate 300 back in 1997.

Ummm... Is that a tablet though?

It does have a touch screen, it was based on the Newton. Calling it a tablet is a bit of a stretch, but I was simply comparing it to the device that bob21 posted the picture of.

BS. It's just a cover. Look at him and how his health has gone down while trying to "cover it up".

They could make steve's life a lot easier by making the tablet run Windows 7. Then everyone would benefit. :p
#5.1 hotdog963al on 11 Apr 2009 - 23:34
A) Windows 7 isn't even out yet, nor will it be 100% designed for this device.
B) You can install any x86 OS on Apple's hardware.

Nurrr!

Yeah, because OS X is 'custom designed' for every hardware revision and product update they put out.

Nurrr!

So you say that Stiff Jopps is a liar? Because he told everyone that you can easily use Windows on Apple hardware. I actually wonder what's OS X share on Apple PCs.

On a similar note, while Apple hardware sales are growing, the OS X market share isn't growing nearly as fast, meaning people are starting to buy Macs for the sole purpose of running Windows on them. I bet the tablet's going to cost $2000+
#5.5 Airlink on 12 Apr 2009 - 13:37
Oh, more than that. Why, the Apple Logo alone will run you upwards of $300.
#6 hotdog963al on 11 Apr 2009 - 23:33
This is wicked shizz.
*Praises Steve*

I'm sure that when he's physically able to, he's giving whatever feedback he can. I do not , however, expect that to be very much right now.

I do hope he successfully recovers.

So what is the big part he played in the iPhone OS release?
Tell his programmers: "Work faster!"?
#8.1 rm20010 on 12 Apr 2009 - 01:52
No, he barges into a group of programmers and shouts "You are not paid... to be a bunch... of... CLOWNS! Or maybe you are."

(if you get the reference)

It would be a cool device but it will undoubtable cost too much. Think mac mini prices.

I bet they even call it the MacBook mini, starting at $599 with a high end-ish model at $799.

I'd bet my Apple tax that they call it the MacBook mini; there's nothing else really appropriate.

No, you aren't thinking like a hippy.

1. There are notebook PCs called MacBooks.
2. Writing on a tablet feels like writing on a notepad.
3. The success of the iPod name.
4. iPad.

/if I win, I want a footrub from LTD

Apple is releasing female hygeine products?
#9.7 Joshie on 13 Apr 2009 - 22:21
Sure, why not? XD It'd be their next ad campaign. Two women, mother and daughter, powerwalking through a park, talking about how checking email just doesn't feel "fresh" anymore...

Wow, really? Steve Jobs is still involved in Apple? Would've never guessed that

Sorry. I feel the article should be focusing more on the tablet, which is more interesting, than the fact that Steve Jobs indeed still owns Apple, which shouldn't be a question in anyone's mind.

Yeah, well, we have a Reality Distortion Field Jammer set up in here, but sometimes it's not completely %100 effective. So, from time to time article like this one will slip by the filter and make it up onto the front page news.

Yeah, but unfortunately I didn't know what else to write about the tablet :p all I was given was "he's working on a tablet" xD I tried. As for Reality Distortion Field jammer... I don't see how that makes sense :p

How about the Mac "Slice"?
#12.1 Joshie on 13 Apr 2009 - 22:24
Someone might confuse their Apple Slice with their orange Slice and pop the top off of it thinking there was something to drink.

People. What can ya do.

MacLet
iTab
MacTab
MacVac (vaccuum - thinner than air)

any more?
#14 C_Guy on 14 Apr 2009 - 15:15
A Tablet sized device. HHMMMM apparently Stevie has been spending time with his buddy Bill while away from Apple.
