LG Viewty update in the works

According to information that was accidentally published by LG in its German blog, it may appear that they are currently working on a successor to the LG Viewty, the LG Viewty II or GC900. The original Viewty by LG, the KU990, sold very well, particularly in Europe, where it was suggested that it may have outsold the Apple iPhone.

Specs of the LG Viewty II (GC900):

  • 3.00 inch, 480 X 800 Pixels, 262 144 Colour TFT Touch screen with handwriting recognition
  • Quadband with GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA and 3G Network compatible
  • Wi-Fi and Stereo Bluetooth 2.0 Connectivity
  • MicroSD Cardslot
  • 8 MP Camera with Auto focus, Manual focus, Image Stabilizer, Face Detection, Blink shot, Smile Detection, Flash and Geo tagging
  • Supports IMAP, POP3, SMTP E-mail

Based on the pictures themselves, it appears that that the device would be using the 'S-CLASS USER INTERFACE' and may be offered by Orange. It is also reported that the handset has a thickness of 12.4 mm [half an inch] and weighs around 90g [3.17 oz].

Please note that none of the information you see in this post is final until it is confirmed by LG. The German Blog entry has now been taken down by LG.

The Viewty was ass. I used it for like a week and had to take it back, jack of all trades, master of none.

I agree. I used it for a month and after the novelty of it wore off within the first week or so I realized how crap it was - sadly I got shafted by an early-upgrade no return after a ridiculously short time so I just went and got myself an iPhone and unlocked it to Orange.

It is possible to make a camera in a phone that quality - but it will cost. If its real is likely they will have also used studio lighting for the shot etc. to make the camera have to do as little work as possible.

I am sure it is possible, it would cost maybe around £5000, but NEVER at this size. It would weigh as a brick though, and would just about fit in your backpack.

The photos is most likely taken with 85mm f/1.2L or something similar and a very expensive SLR body. That phone couldn't even get similar perspective, needless to say about the quality.
I can't see any catchlight in their eyes, so I don't think they used any flash, maybe just a reflector or two, and exposed for the people.

Since I have nice camera gear, I use my LG as a phone, rather than something else that it may not be. As a phone it is great and efficient. Touchscreen is really better than tiny keypad. I am sure the upgrade will be even better in that respect.

Short answer: LG (apparently) didn't want Windows Mobile on this device. Period.
And really, can you blame them? It's not like WinMO is the only game in town: LG had the freedom to choose from a ton of mobile OSes... and they went with something else but WinMO. That should tell you something.

I'd write up a list, but I don't have the time. :P To put it simply, it's ****.

No Win = No buy :)

HTC, here I cum

It doesn't have to choose OSes because it's not a smartphone. My boss have one and really it's just a simple phone with simple functions + a nice touch screen.
