Company insiders and Wzor have confirmed that 7100 is the official Windows 7 RC build.7100.0.winmain_win7rc.090421-1700 was compiled on Tuesday and has reportedly been handed out to OEM partners and TAP gold customers. Earlier this month we reported that build 7077 had leaked online and that Microsoft were pushing towards a 7100 RC release.
Microsoft recently published details about a public RC due for May 5th. We expect MSDN/TechNet customers to receive the bits within the next week if the company is still targeting May 5th.
According to reports, 7115.0.winmain.090421-1650 is the latest build internally at the time of writing.

Vista ads? All the MS ads I've seen lately are for PCs in general. Or Windows Live, which is available for every Windows PC running XP or later.
Yeah, that's true. They haven't had so many Vista ads anymore now that the whole Mojave campaign is over.
You obviously didn't read the article. Might want to re-read it and read the part that says "PUBLIC release candidate"
Maybe he meant he's waiting for a leak before May 5th.
i don't know much about beta but if it's RC now, it should reach RC 2 soon and then it's ready for release?
1 RC (7xx
RTM
Release date of RTM is just speculation atm.
RC - End of April, aka NOW
RTM - End of July
on store shelves from major OEMs - September
everything selling and supported in time for Christmas

All rumors.
The best official release date we have is, believe it or not, January 2010. Straight from Microsoft. "Three years from Vista's general availability."

Your slighty wrong, you haven't taken in to account Microsoft have hit problems and are considering a 2nd RC to address bugs, etc.
@thealexweb, "Considering" is the active word here. If there is a showstopper bug (most likely with WMP12 right now), it will push RTM to August...that's all.
Since when has the end of April been also known as now?
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the RC as I've been stuck with the initial 7000 build all this time.
Remember though, cannot give sooo much credit to them, they are building off vista, which is much more adopted now (if I use it NOW compared to 3 months after it was released (personally stuck with xp even after the betas of vista) it 'is' pretty good...with all the updates and 1gb+ ram). Yes, the updates. Plethora of them, + drivers that are 'compatible' now. We were working with beta and experimental stuff after rtm. Poor preparation (Manufactueres fault), although poor presentation (M$ fault).
7 is the good vista now, but a lot better, yes indeed. I remember reading they wanted [Longhorn] to be a big jump, and lay the groundworks. I think thats what they did. 7 is now building off it very well. So it I feel all worked out and it will benefit them even more.
This confuses me too.
If the 5th of May is going to be the public release of the RC, then I just don't understand the significance of the 15th of May.
This is what i have been saying also. It states that all tech ed attendees will get windows 7 RC at the event. They will get it via technet.
So I am guessing that may 15 will be the technet and msdn release date and the public will be out later.

Surprisingly, I saw screenshots here with chats to Jeff Zhang. My friend talked to the SAME Jeff Zhang and he replied I don't know, and did not mention May 15 at all
That's the online chat I'm referring to.
It's the case according to WZor at least.
Windows Media Center on 7 was awesome so I can't wait to switch to RC!

Atari
No.
Same here. After coming from sleep or hibernation i get BSOD.
However problem reduced after upgrading to 7077, but maybe the whole trouble is because of upgrading from vista at the beginning, I didn't tried to install from scratch.
Answer: No!
-1 Because the beta hasn't been removed from Technet. 8P
will probably be a few days until it actually leaks.

what's so funny about that? I mean, cool if you're right but it doesn't sound like anything to lol about.
Another 12 year old looking for attention.
Let's just say that it didn't go down all that well for them...
........................................................................................................... Does it make me a bad person to say that I dislike this individual to the point where I would like to have an internet whammy button that knocks him offline so he can stop being an idiot?
nope.. it's perfectly natural to feel that way.
RC2 - 2x.05.2009 not known if it's gonna be publicly available
RTM - August ???
General Availability - September ???
...
Office 2010 - 2010
Latest Completed according to WZor: 6.1.7116.0.winmain.090422-1816
Yes, ribbons in Explorer would be great!
The current retarded pseudo-toolbar in Explorer is (almost) completely useless, and you can't even customise it to fix that.

I would be EXTREMELY happy if they used a ribbon interface in explorer.
It already is in Calculator, Wordpad/Notepad; I can easily see it in Windows Movie Maker, as well as Explorer.
I can't see it in Internet Explorer though, too big.
Windows Live Movie Maker (early beta) already has a ribbon.
Don't be expecting any significant UI changes in Win7 at this point. RC means "basically done."
Here's to the waiting game...
"Shares in Microsoft rose by 4% in after-hours trading - possibly reassured by comments from the firm that it was on track to release the next version of its operating system, Windows 7, during its 2010 financial year."
2010?
2010?
financial year! it begins on 1st oct 2009
