Windows 7 RC build 7100 leaks

Tom Warren   on 24 April 2009 - 08:58 · 111 comments & 48787 views

Advertisement (Why?)
Redmond still haven't called that plumber, the official RC build has leaked online at the usual places.

We revealed yesterday that the Windows 7 RC build was 7100 and according to many Neowin members the x86 version has leaked just a short time ago.

We expect the RC will be available to the public shortly and Redmond could still hit the rumored May 5th date. There is speculation the software giant will hold off until May 15th, the last day of Tech-Ed 2009.

By the time the download will be completed, the RC will be out by Microsoft...

Downloading at a blazing speed of 5k/sec, welcome back to 56Kbps!

Somehow i feel like this complaining about speed is from people that are caping upload or have **** upload in general. Torrent clients are using choke protocol, if your upload is crap or your share ratio is crap, your download will be crap. Rememeber sharing is caring! I got x86 with avarage ~1.3mb/s and x64 with avarage ~500kb/s (since it was new when i added it), but i also uploaded about 2 to 3 times that much in time download compleated and im still uploading. So stop complaining about speeds OK?

funny thing is somebodys posted a link to it on wikipedia already

getting now cant wait. though i cant see it being much different to 7077
#10 nxm on 24 Apr 2009 - 10:13
that biased swedish judge from some days ago 's favorite website is carrying the stuff in both x64 and x86 from today. there are not many entries to check and you simply type "7100" in the searchbox of your browser on that page and you have em both.

no big deal.

What is the hash code of Windows 7 7100 64-bits?
#15.1 nxm on 24 Apr 2009 - 11:02
depends on what hash algorithm you are about to use ofcourse.

theres plenty of hashes out there. a torrent file is nothing more than an extended hash too. you can check against the hash from the torrented file ofcourse.

hmm well it might be a technet only release on may 15 and public later. to download the rc the teched site states all attendees will be given a year long technet membership.

So the public might have to wait till later.

No, the Technet release will be before that event. The gift at the event is just a bonus for attendees.

7100 (build)
0 (?)
090421 ( April 21, 2009)
1700 (?)
x64 (64bit)
fre (?)
client (not server)
en-us (english - united states)
Retail (version)
Ulitmate (version)
GRC1CULXFRER (WTF?)
EN (english i guess again)
DVD (media)
#24.1 +Anarkii on 24 Apr 2009 - 12:53
7100 (build)
0 (?) --- always either a 0 or a 1. Doesnt mean anything from what I understand.
1700 (5pm)
#24.2 agressiv on 24 Apr 2009 - 18:05
fre - no debugging code (as opposed to dbg)

G RC1 CUL X FRE R

G = General (as opposed to Internal or something?)
RC1 = RC1 (Beta 1 was B1)
CUL = Not sure
X = x64 (This is not there on any x86 release)
FRE = Again, no debug code
R = Not sure

OK Ive installed it (the 64 bit version), so far it looks identical to build 7077, has the same loading screens, same themes, same GUI, so any changes in this RC must be all under the hood. I've tried to upgrade it from 7057 and it says it can't upgrade... So do I assume I have to do a clean install?
#34.1 Recon415 on 24 Apr 2009 - 14:34
Yeah. Upgrades only work between older OS's not older versions.
#34.2 Zetaprime on 24 Apr 2009 - 20:58
I found this info that might help:

Microsoft recommends users to do a clean install rather than upgrading from Windows 7 Beta (or any other builds) to Windows 7 RC build. It is not possible to upgrade your Windows 7 Beta to RC unless you bypass the check for the pre-release upgrade. Even though this is not recommended by Microsoft, below are the steps to bypass this check (from the E7 blog):

•Download the ISO as you did previously and burn the ISO to a DVD
•Copy the whole image to a storage location you wish to run the upgrade from (a bootable flash drive or a directory on any partition on the machine running the pre-release build)
•Browse to the sources directory
•Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad
•Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7100 to 7000
•Save the file in place with the same name
•Run setup like you would normally from this modified copy of the image and the version check will be bypassed

Faisal : It's OLD build - compiled on 04.04.
RC build is only 7100.
Afterwards there were 7105/7106 (pre-RTM branch)
Currently there is the build 7115 compiled.

Wrong.

RC is 7100, but it's one of the newer builds which were done recently. 7100 was reserved so that whatever build they felt was best would become RC.

Some weird problems with my X61s and Intel x3100. Experience Index got stuck at Direct3D 10 ALU and crashed on the nex run after restart. "Windows System Assessment Tool has stopped working".
Guess im gonna try Vista drivers then...

I suspect because it won't be in the RTM.

The tool I believe will be left in the RTM (at least I hope so, will be helpful to be able to provide feedback to help shape future service packs), but it is going to be removed from all application Windows for obvious cosmetic reasons.

Installed (fresh) 7100 x64 after having used 7068 (upgraded from vista x64 sp1) for a couple of weeks.
I have mixed feelings about this build with responsiveness not as snappy and explorer hanging on security warning.
