Microsoft has released its second Service Pack for Office 2007 today.Service Pack 2 includes some significant changes, including built-in ability to save as ODF & PDF formats, improvements to Outlook's performance and calendar reliability and significant bug fixes for charts in core Office applications. It is also a rollup of all fixes that have previously been released for Office 2007 products.
The company has published a support article detailing the various fixes and improvements contained in the SP2 update. According to the document there are improvements in the following areas, to name but a few:
- Outlook responsiveness
- More reliable Outlook calendar updates
- Search reliability
- RSS improvements in Outlook
- Better .pdf/.xps output fidelity
- Improves the charting mechanism in Excel 2007
- Provides faster file resaves in PowerPoint 2007
The download is available here.

Indeed. It's a shame though you can't integrate SP2 and thus have to waste time with first installing the Office Suite and then installing SP2 on top with new installs (which happen very often when you're frequently doing new installs of Win7 builds).

That isnt slipstreaming, it doesnt update the binary install files. It just appends the SP2 install to run from the 'Updates' folder after the main install has ran. Which means the image size grows considerably. Bring back true slipstreaming MS
I've never seen a problem like that since O2K7 live came out
I wish they would make it possible to slipstream it normally instead of simply extracting the SP installer to the Updates directory on the media.
PS i use open office
I'm getting a few conflicting reports from other sites about how you add this in to the CD - do I have to remove the files that made up SP1 first, or add this in with the files from SP1 (and then re-burn the image)?
Thanks for the help...
Try Lotus Notes..
how dare u compare outlook with lotus note??? outlook rules!
talk about bulky... try lotus notes!

That was kind of the point - when you're stuck with something so much worse outllook is heaven
Oh, God, yes! I'm installing this ASAP.
thanks
thanks
Yup
Try foxit reader, it's free.
Because in the day and age where we have 1.5TB hard drives people think just because it takes up like 100MB installed its automatically bloatware, almost like they can't get a bigge drive.
Adobe Reader is fast and even Acrobat is as well, I have no compliants here.
strange how foxit has made such traction at my company then eh?

No thats not the reason. 1. The damn installer is huge (40+meg) 2. They force you to install AIR, which most of us don't need. 3. When they release a security update, they make you download the whole damn thing again instead of hot patching what you have. All of this adds up to a big PITA for people dealing with slow PCs and slow internet connections. There is just no excuse for it to be the way it is now.

No bloat... just straight Adobe Reader.
You do realize that the reason that Adobe seems "fast" is because it adds crap to the startup so that it ALWAYS running.
Face it, Reader is a steaming pile
I thought this was about the Office 2007 Service Pack 2?
It's slow, it's cumbersome, and it's prone to lockup quite often.
What's interesting is that Lotus is an IBM company and IBM hosts a download to "Kill Notes" because the processes get hung and you can't restart the app.

I was so happy when the company I work for migrated to Outlook/Exchange.
Yup it's in there I think

Yes it is, their link in the post is bad.
Lol!! considering how many people are gonna be hitting this, that's not really a surprise.
I'm 25% done, at around 200KB/s, which is pretty good for me!
I'm guessing Microsoft is getting pounded.

I'd like to know this as well.
load balancing anyone?? it's almost like the file is corrupt or something.. i'm getting good speeds.. but it just "completes" at 85mb-190mb ( i've tried about a dozen times already)
I miss Rocky.
I've used this link to download. It took around 290mb.

well im sure if you can install/run office on windows 7 then you can properly update it
Shouldn't need to do a system restore. In Vista you just go to Programs and Features and click on Installed Updates and its there for me. I have not installed it on an XP system yet but make sure you don't have updates hidden otherwise you may not see it.
What if I installed the "beta" hotfix for Outlook previously, would it be best to uninstall that hotfix first?
Download complete btw, no corrupt file message, runs fine.

You must have a magic machine because I couldn't either.
Except for Excel...
new? :|
I'm using Vista 32bit SP1 and I already had Office SP1 installed (Enterprise).
Using XP-Pro SP3 (4)
indeed..it's damn awesome.
have you restarted your computer yet?
Yes! I opened all of my Office 2007 SP2 applications as well.
it's not part of office?
I slipstreamed it in my office 2007 (vanilla (without any SP)) and it works!
I uninstalled it before hand. It only takes a few seconds. I bet it won't remove the reference in Add/Remove, even if it uninstalls the code.
It seems to depend where you look. Windows Update says it's for Expression Web too but it doesn't say if it's v1 or v2. The Standalone download site makes no mention of Expression Web and Visual Web Developer.
This was the same with SP1 though. WU said it's for Expression Web but nothing is mentioned on the website. I read it to mean that it's for Office not Expression Web specifically but due to sharing the same code it likely update Expression Web too a bit also.

Is this definitely the case? Has anyone tried to install it without SP1 installed? Thanks
I'm wondering if I can delete my Standalone SP1 EXE. I like to keep a backup of old SPs, if I need them.
Except for Vista which has been confirmed, it's always been policy that new SPs include all old SPs too. The last time you had to install a prior Service Pack was with Office 2000, you need Service Release 1 (aka SP1) before installing SP3.

Yes, you don't need sp1 in order to install sp2.
Sp2 includes sp1!

This link also details how much easier it is to create a Slipstream disc.

you said well "IT LOOKS LIKE"...
I had my Office 2007 (without any service pack included) copied on my hd.
I extracted the sp2 files and pasted in the folder "Updates". Then I installed Office and at the end of installation it resulted sp2 version.
(sorry for my english, i'm italian
