It's been a while since we've seen an Apple rumor, but here's one for you to quench your thirst; MacRumors has posted what appears to be specifications (rumored, might we add) of the inevitable upcoming iPhone.

The post originally comes from a Chinese website and forum, and the poster has no current credibility in the world of rumors, so be skeptical. They posted an image, found below:

It shows a model number of "MB717LL", a new one, as well as revealing 32GB of storage space. Again, the poster is not exactly a reliable one, but the specifications (listed below) seem to bode well with all previous rumors.

"- 600MHz CPU Speed (up from 400MHz)
- 256MB RAM (up from 128MB)
- Digital Compass and FM
- 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus
- 32GB size
- No major changes in battery, screen and external casing.
"

All this seems like it would be fairly accurate, but only time will tell. According to MacRumors, Weiphone has been a source of numerous Apple leaks, including the unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

Wonder what they were ordering all them 5 Mpxl cameras for then

They need to put a better camera in with flash
#2.1 Manish on 12 May 2009 - 15:45
I was really hoping for 5 megapixels with flash too. Especially with SE and Nokia phones seem to be going megapixel crazy. Though 3.2 MP isn't that bad. Apple seem to be able to get a lot out of the camera, in terms of quality.

On a side note, it'll improve the ability to recognise barcodes for apps like pic2shop.

Yeah tend to agree there - though cameras are the least used with phones when I have them, but then again I'm a nerd who carries round my Canon and Nikon!

Hey ! The reception on this new model is much better : they are able to pick up North American AT&T network from China !!!
And the exact name is AT&T[space]3.5 and not AT&T3.5 ...

AT&T[space]3.5 and not AT&T3.5

That's a good point if its definitely that way. But Chinese does not equal in China (apart from in certain places of the world who are taught that is how things should be)

They need to give it a better screen. 800x480 comes to mind, or even 600x400. It always seems like they're one stop short of a full product.

Are these the specifications of Apple's next iPhone? - No!
#6 badblood on 12 May 2009 - 07:46
Still doesn't tempt me into buying one you know. It may be shiny and new, but I'd rather have something that was praticle and meets my needs.

That said, an upgrade like this is brilliant for Apple, even if they haven't pulled out all the stops to make the spec as high as possible (if this source is to be believed).

Yes.

A 30GB phone.

I'm sure that's practical.

Get a grip you Apple obsessed people.

Do you really want your primary music player to be the same thing as the communication tool that you actually depend on and can get you in trouble if you are not able to pick up?

It's really not such an amazing hassle to carry something as small as a Nano in one pocket and a decent flip/slider phone in the other.

I'm really getting sick of all the Micro$oft fanbois that post here. I will never own a mac & I think Windows 7 will be great, but to say that a phone isn't practical when it can be used for a phone, a music player, a browser, a video game system. THATS THE DEFINITION OF PRACTICALITY YOU IDIOT! People who hate the iPhone need to wake up because the iPhone ,weather you like it or not, really did revolutionize the mobile phone industry
#7.2 +Smigit on 12 May 2009 - 08:29
he didn't mention MS???

But in response to the original poster...yes, I wouldnt mind having them as a single device. Not everyone works or goes into situations where they can't have a phone. Infact I can't recall the last time i wasn't allowed a phone on me besides a Uni exam and I wouldnt have been allowed a nano either. besides, a nano doesn't have the same multimedia capabilities as an iPhone.
#7.3 Jugalator on 12 May 2009 - 08:38
Yes, listen to this reasoning -- it has too much storage space for you! :-p It needs less storage space! Seriously though, 30 GB isn't impractical, it's way more practical than 5 GB. And who said it was only useful to store music on? That's not what I used my iPod for. I used it for general data, besides my few gigs of music. It's awesome, carrying a small hard drive in your pocket!

No, that's true. But it's more practical to not have to carry that Nano. Surely you must agree unless you forgot your brain in your bed this morning? It's one less device to carry.

I'm pretty sure his point was that why would you use your phone to listen to music and the like (which will severely drain the battery) and risk missing important calls due to not enough battery power when you could just buy a decent phone and a nano or other small mp3 player which takes up no room at all. It would be a completely different story if apple allowed you to change your battery, like all the real phone manufacturers allow, so that you could carry around a spare battery charged up and ready to go.

So it's better to control the storage space on the phone to control the users behavior? We can't trust them in knowing how much music they'll play? Yes, maybe they'll now start going nuts with it and keep playing their 30 GB's of music, and only music, and keep draining their batters, not knowing what is going wrong like a herd of sheep.

Personally I think users will use their phones so that they can still call with them, and many would be happy to have the extra storage space for music, and other things. Personally I often use my extra space to even store non-phone stuff, like PC applications. Making this a replacement for not only a Nano, but also an USB stick.

Are you for real? Of course I want them to be the same thing - anything that means I don't have to carry multiple devices around with me is a major bonus.

If you know you DEPEND on extended battery life you probably won't buy an iPhone, or if you do really want one, but you're expecting critical calls, you won't load it up with music and listen to it for 8 hours and then get upset at not having enough battery life to take a call.

It's not rocket science. They're catering to the majority of people who might not depend on mobile phones and would prefer to consolidate their mobile devices.

I know for definate that my Nano never leaves my flat now that I've got my iPhone.

Heh. At least he can competently spell Microsoft. There is no dollar sign. Keep practicing though!
#7.8 Manish on 12 May 2009 - 15:37
It's rumoured to be a 32GB actually. I agree 30GB would be silly.

If you had read your post, you'd realise how stupid it is. Here's a summarised version:
Compared to having 2 devices, having a phone which doubles as a music player, is not practical and more of a hassle.

I'm sorry but I'm finding it very hard not to call you an idiot. Don't forget that as well as music, and pictures and videos, more and more larger-sized apps are coming out. Take Myst for instance. (But you'll probably argue that I should carry a phone, PSP/DS and a Nano, right?)

A 32GB iPhone would be great. A 64GB (reasonably priced) one would be perfect.

I'd really love a 64Gig iPhone but I'd say we're probably 12 months off that.

It's useless to me unless they allow direct drive access over USB (like the classic ipod)

You can already use the iPhone as a portable drive.

And the current iPhone already contains a 600MHz CPU, it's just been downclocked to 400MHz.

They NEED to do something what that battery. The life drains out of it faster than a fat kid after cake.

My battery seems fine. Do you have an installed app thats a bit buggy. I used to have Twitterific installed and even when not running it drained my battery literally within a day. Deleted the app and everything is fine now.
#11.2 Manish on 12 May 2009 - 15:26
I agree. Any improvement on battery life would be great. Mine's drains very quickly too. More than any other phone I've had. Then again, I do use it a considerable amount more, and, for a lot more things.
#12 Septimus on 12 May 2009 - 11:05
My 16GB 3G is almost always near full, so 32GB will be nice. 64 would be nicer of course, and maybe 512MB for running apps (most crashes are memory issues and more headroom the better).

Why was the forum post closed? News pages aren't a place for discussion on the _subject_. They are for a discussing the _news_ item itself. Like "Cool" "Thanks for the info".

News and forums should be able to double up.

As long as they put MMS in the new iPhone, I don't give a crap about the rest of it.

new case design?
#15.1 +Smigit on 13 May 2009 - 05:46
I doubt it and if they do it'll be minimal. From a marketing perspective the iPhone is very recognizable so I doubt they're in a rush to redesign it

FM Radio? It's a fake.
