A lot of people have been saying lately that Twitter is the newest, and probably best, way to find real-time search results. Pop in what you want into the search bar and you'll get up to the minute results from people talking about your topic. Google has certainly not sat by and watched this happen -- according to Mashable and the official Google Blog, they've just unveiled their new Google Search Options.

What new features can you expect when searching? For one, time-based results. As mentioned, Google appears to be taking Twitter head on with this, and now you can filter your search results based on the time they were posted. A handy feature, especially for journalists. Next up, you're allowed to search with certain things in mind, like reviews; there are now options to find these easily, but you can also specify videos and forums too. In context of a review search, type in the name of what you want to find a review of, click Search Option and select review on there also, and Google will show results that they identify as reviews. This is already relatively easy enough just by adding "review" to the end of a search, but none-the-less, this is an improvement.

The aforementioned time-based results are certainly very useful, though. You are given a graphical timeline in which you can select the period that you want, and Google will give you the results from your choices. Adding onto this, there is now a new feature called Wonder Wheel. Wonder Wheel gives you "a graphical representation of related search terms." It's hard to explain this properly without seeing it in action, so please, you can find Google's announcement video for the Search Option below:

These features should be available for everybody today, so go and check them out and let us know how it goes.

Thank you

sweetsam, it's much better to report these things as omganinja did, using the 'Report a Problem' link, located near the ratings box at the top of the page. Thanks, though

The Review filter looks really great. How many times was I looking for real reviews product reviews and got the first 3 pages full of commercial websites and price comparators that mentionned the word "review" somewhere?

So you wouldn't find any of these options useful?

What if you wanted to easily search for a review of a TV or something?

Sexy Options!

I love it.
Was playing about with these options last night.
Certainly useful.

Google Squared sounds like the most interesting!

I can see a new generation of search engines on the horizon now. Or rather with a focus being knowledge bases instead of the web, for more precise "factual" searches. It will of course also be nice to see Wolfram Alpha launch Real Soon Now.

Of course, there are already existing searchable knowledge bases out already, like Cyc and True Knowledge. But it certainly looks like the time is here for these to open up and start competing for real now.

Yes as long as you are searching for what people had for breakfast or how successful they were at finding a parking spot this morning. Important stuff.

My question to Google would be, who has trouble differentiating between video, review, and forum search results? Then I would watch the tumbleweed blow by and wonder how much these guys get paid to come up with these ideas.

This is both extremely useful and extremely annoying for me.

Extremely useful because these options will come in very handy, especially if I need to find a review or a forum topic (to get people's opinions on things).

Extremely annoying because I really want to hate Google. I would like to hate them for their horrible website designs and that alone. They are just plain ugly - Gmail has improved slightly with themes, but really, the whole designing team at Google just has no taste. There would be ways they could make the loading time the same and keep the design minimal, but still make it look much nicer.

They already seem to have enticed me to switch from Firefox and use their web browser because of interface decisions and certain features (although the folder icons and star icon are absolutely disgusting) and now it seems I will find it even harder not to use their search engine

Why can't they just wake up and realise their websites are ugly, change them to make them actually look nice and then maybe I'll start enjoying using their useful services!?

well... the ones that need options to imput searchterms for them...
they also can't really handle a task like this... clicking on options and navigating through things.
the ones that can handle it... well... they rather type in the words by themself...

But as it is small and maybe usefull for a percentage of users... it is ok

Just typing "Review" at the end of your search query won't always return only reviews. The same is the case for forum posts and the other options shown here.

These options guarantee to give you more relevant results, if you are looking for specific things like reviews or forum posts.

They should include everything from images, map, news or even allow user to customize it if they're logged in.
