Intel Corporation has reached an agreement to acquire Wind River Systems Inc, for $884 million. Wind River Systems is known for cutting edge software for a number of different markets including, automotive, aerospace & defense, consumer, industrial, mobile devices and network equipment.

After Intel acquires Wind River Systems the company will be able to grow with its embedded software with its processors to help gain the advantage in the market with mobile devices and reach further outside of the desktop and server market.

Now that Intel has entered the software market, putting up a fight with embedded chips, Intel becomes a danger to IBM, AMD, Microsoft and Apple. IBM already provides consumers with software, hardware, chips and other services worldwide can now see Intel becoming a threat, much like its competitor AMD which has only recently acquired ATI, entering the market at more than just chips.

Microsoft and Apple will also see Intel as a threat from Wind River Systems already popular consumer base, providing software solutions to aerospace navigation systems; landing system; and autopilot, cell phone network solutions, and Linux.

i dont mind big companies purchasing other businesses however Intel is against Free/Equal trading which is something i cant stand, striking deals and stuff like that so other suppliers wouldn't sell competitors stock now they into software as well what else are they going to blackmail for eg make software for their processor so nothing but nividia works properly on them.
These are only my thoughts i have nothing to back it up.

Hmm...most of Wind Rivers products are for the ARM architecture. Is Intel trying to kill ARM by buying such companies out? I seriously doubt any x86 chip that Intel makes can compete with ARM for embedded applications, as ARM has been used on virtually all major embedded projects to date involving industrial use.

funny that all of the controllers at Napier tanneries are x86 based pics not arm

Umm...where? Not 100% of places use ARM, some use MIPS based stuff that emulates x86 (to allow for easier development).

It's more likely that intel will keep the arm edition and have an x86 version aswell
