October 22, that's the date Windows 7 will hit retail shelves and start being sold on new PCs around the world. While the code will go RTM and be released on MSDN, Technet and undoubtedly every torrent site and warez newsgroup before that date, October 22 will be the first time "normal" people will have a chance to get their hands on the new operating system. But, do you want to be the first on the block to get a nice shiny boxed up copy of Windows 7? Well, you're going to have to catch a flight to the land down under to do it. Microsoft has confirmed to ZDNet that due to the International Date Line, New Zealand will be the first country in the world where Windows 7 will be widely available.
"Our understanding at this time is that the availability of Windows 7 will 'follow the sun' on Thursday October 22," a Microsoft spokesperson said late yesterday. "As such, we're excited that the first retail sales globally of Windows 7 will take place in New Zealand and Australia as we cross the dateline ahead of other markets."
Still no official word on how much a retail copy of Windows 7 is going to set you back. But if you want to be first, you should plan to tack on at least $2362 USD, the current price for an October round trip ticket on United Airlines from Los Angeles to New Zealand. Your price and mileage may vary.

Heathrow-Auckland and back, cheapest offer on October 22nd:
Price per adult incl. £78.40 taxes and fees: £478.40 - that's $764.40 in Yankee Dollars, you guys are really getting ripped off
Flight is with Royal Brunei Airlines and has a stop in Bandar Seri Begawan - that's in Brunei, north of Malaysia:

Duration 29 hrs 15 mins - lovely
Around October the 22th it will be around € 42 I think.
they're just making fun of the US $
calm down a bit
Yeah, maybe in October 22, it will be.
We could only hope. American manufacturing would skyrocket and the Chinese would receive their loaned money back in the worthless USD. Nothing like currency trading on a loan, those fools!
Me and you both.
There's always someone who doesn't get the joke.
You Americans really don't have a sense of humour, do you? See I can look silly by doing generalisations as well.
But the US is GMT -8, at least here on the west coast, so tecnically we should get it before you, since we'll be 8 hours before you.
Um what ? do you understand GMT timezones ?
GMT +12 is NZ means we are 12 ahead of GMT 0 then you get to the US which is -8 west -4 east which further on past 0 is longer so east coast is 16 hours behind new zealand and west is 20 hours approx behind NZ.
It's currently 6:52am here, 7:52PM UK (DST), 2:52pm eastern, 11:52am western.
Yea so you are behind and you get it AFTER them. Read more about timezones.
One British person says it so that means all British people feel that way? Yeah, I see your thinking...
I must be living in the future!
yeah and hes even a neowin MOD, just goes to show dosnt it lol.

'Crikey!' is more applicable to us Aussies, although less so since Steve Irwin died a few years ago.
Just stick to "fush and chups" and have some mention of sheep.

Devils0wn was the RTM version. Makes me shudder to think of XP at RTM...what an abortion of an OS, but I came off Windows 2000 and not 98/ME like most general consumers.
It doesn't really matter, that key hasn't worked for about 4-5 years. Basically since SP2 was released.
It would have worked for that Devil's Corp thing

General availability date for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 is 23 October 2009 (NZ Time). Both have the same RTM and Generally Availability date. RTM is on track for availability for partners in the 2nd half of July.

Look up pole reversal and magnetic shift etc.
LOL, unfortunately, you're right.
Most definitely... still waiting on nokia N97 which could come as late as july and US and EU are getting them now
Don't even get me started on Rock Band, either.
I still remember when the iPhone 3G was released... one group of writers from some website came down here to get a look at it 2 hours before anybody else :p And hey, if Apple's new iPhone to be announced on Monday (don't deny it) follows the same routine, I can do a review for Neowin before everybody else too.
So it's us lucky brits that get to see it first.
Sorry for the mistake. IMDB is wrong.
Hyped ? never heard of it on march 31st but i know it's stock piling and shipping now..
Who is shipping it now? I am not aware of anyone. Even Nokia direct is still preorders only.
While you guys are still queing up for midnight launch we're already on way home and installing/using
Yeah, but we'll have it well before release anyway thanks to MSDN
Yeah but your still going to be in NZ...
Oi! What do you mean by that? :p
Yup day after windows 7 comes up i buy it go to sleep then wake up and quote apocolypse now... "S**t, I'm still in New Zealand."
Because they just got their anoraks out from the dry cleaners.
Pfft, dry cleaners.
I feel sorry for the IT guys in Hawaii -- they'll be hearing news of Win7's launch ALL DAY before being able to use it themselves.
Here in South Africa is a good place to be. GMT +2 FTW!
I will buy it, no doubt. Maybe 2-3 copies actually - but no way in hell I am waiting until I get a hard copy to use it
