Updated: Picture of Dell's upcoming smart phone leaks

Updated: See Below
It seems that everyone is trying to cash in on the smart phone sales that have been taking off ever since the iPhone launched a few years back. Dell is no different and it appears that a picture of its upcoming smart phone has been leaked.

Pictured below is what appears to be Dell's new smart phone that is clearly an all or mostly touch screen device but sadly that is about as much information that is known at this point. Dell is up for a tough fight against the Pre, iPhone, and the G1 which all have similar hardware but the difference is the software. Dell certainly has the resources to invest to produce a quality OS interface on what is probably the Android platform. Besides the specs of the phone the other big question is what carrier will be selling this phone. Or possibly Dell could sell this phone as a generic GSM phone that will work on any GSM network but those chances seem to be slim to none by looking at how carrier business models operate.

Dell is rumored to be launching this device sometime later this year and one could probably expect a lot of hype before the launch too.

Update:

It appears that another picture has leaked. According to BGR, who has a solid track record for mobile phone leaks, has posted this blurry shot up of the supposed device running Android. Dell is supposedly releasing two models in the form of a 2G and 3G device.

I've seen clearer photos of UFO's and the Lochness Monster.

Exactly. Why do these "techy" guys always manage to bring their 0.1mp cameraphone to these shows.

People want the most amount of screen they can get for the money. If they're trying to "differentiate" they chose the wrong feature to differentiate.

How can a phone not have some similarities to other phones or have the same essential look, there's not that much you can make different and making it a touch screen based phone would make it harder. The main thing I would look at is the internal hardware (good memory, cpu, graphics), how good the OS is and what it can do for developers (what developers can bring to the device has become very important nowadays thanks to the iPhone's appstore). I'm not all for a Dell smartphone but who knows it could bring something interesting to the table and cause more competition for the smartphone industry.

The idea Dell could sell it as a generic gsm unlocked would be welcome ... if that were the case I'd get one, depending on price, and of course, user reviews ...

Looks fine to me, as if any of you people can come up with something new and original for a cell/Smartphone, puuuhhhllleeeeezzzzz... get over it.

If Dell can do it, I'm sure they'll do it right. Sitting here with an X50v at the moment and wondering if Dell would ever get back into the PDA or possibly the Smartphone market and wham... then I see this only minutes later.

What a coincidence...

Still have my X50v too, chugging along just fine. Not that I really have a use for it anymore though lol.

Is it just me or is that a vista wait till I load circle. I guess when you try to call that hot girl you got the number of at the club you will just be staring at the load circle and miss the date. She already hooked up with some other looser. Mohahaha. Microsoft birth control. All the guys are staring at the load circle. Vistas. I guess that makes us feel superior to computers. It gives us a chance to be way faster." Is this guy thinks he is funny all these cheesey jokes?"

Why can't those leaking guys ever use anything with more than a VGA resolution? China should have better gadgets.

Has to be on purpose. You can't buy a camera anymore with less than like 6MP so a clear picture should be expected. And yet we are always left squinting at a horrible pic.

Its because he didnt have the actual phone so he snap one of his friends crapy phone. (kidding) i guess its not like in the james bond movies where the spies have cameras with a 2 feet lense. You got to be more unconspitious in these meetings. Or you'll be descovered and fired. Or so we would need to think. I believe though that most of these leaks are marketing strategies to make you want it before you have it and than be willing to pay twice as what it actually is worth and be just feeling like a moron 3 months later when the price is at half or quarter of what you payed for it. Ouch. This is why I keep moving from company to company and buying crappy newest phones and got no life that I can actually afford.

That DELL logo has gotta go.

Agreed, They should make it delli and ad polish to it. Mohahhahah. Did he just make a sausage joke?

It's kinda hard to change the design of a smartphone. If you want to go touch you'll have to have that sorta shape and screen size. There is only so many limited shapes a cellphone/smartphone can come in you know.

Must every single phone look the same nowadays? Sigh.

Yes to confuse you to buy one from a crap company and think that you are getting the iphone. Or think that there is an eye "I" in there somewhere that makes it as good.

Yes. The basic goal is to use the largest amount of space on the screen and the smallest possible amount of space on everything else which results in every phone looking like a big screen with a bezel. Do you want them to arbitrarily add space wasting designs just so they look different?

No, but add some uniquness to the design. Apple, Palm, HTC, LG, Samsung, etc have all demonstrated that you can make a touchscreen phone that looks nice and different. Dell's looks very plain, and reminds me a bit of HTC's Touch models.
