Some of you have no doubt heard of this offer before, but many out there may not have--or they may have thought it was over. Well, it almost is.

UK students who want to get their hands on a legit, full copy of Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 for less than £40 have until midnight (GMT) on 30 June 2009 to take advantage of Microsoft's long-running "Ultimate Steal" promotion. Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 contains Access, Excel, Groove, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, Powerpoint, Publisher and Word.

If you want to secure your copy, you should visit the "Ultimate Steal" promotion site.

The terms and conditions state that you will need to have access to "a valid e-mail address at a UK educational institution which contains the domain suffix 'ac.uk', 'ac.im', 'ac.gg', 'ac.je' or 'open.ac.uk'."

If you have got that, it is fairly straightforward to order:

"1. Click on 'Buy Now'.
2. Enter your university/college email address.
3. If eligible, you will receive an email to purchase.
4. Click on the link in the email to access the store.
5. Purchase your licence/product key.
6. Add back-up media to your order (optional).
7. Checkout and download Office Ultimate 2007!"

The software, according to the blurb, does not cease to be legitimate after you leave university (the ad says "Get it while you still have a .ac email address.").

There are other bargains to be had. Windows Vista Ultimate Red upgrade is available for about £40 (and Microsoft will give £10 to help fight AIDS in Africa for each copy bought). Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007 is also going cheap: £36.95. According to the terms and conditions, Microsoft Office Language Pack 2007 is on sale as well, for £9.95.

The prices are for the licence/product keys and a download version. If you want your software on DVD, you can pay £9 extra (the Language Pack is, however, only available as a download).

Not right there withdrawing it from the UK but keeping the same promotion in other countries.

Won't be long before it comes back again anyway. Probably just closing it since most people have finished uni for the year.

I think they end it, then bring it back a bit later. They did the last year, it ended just before summer (well end of June) then started again in September.

2010 or nothing for me

Purchased two copies of Office 2007 back when this started in 2007, hoping Windows 7 might come to this in September / October, unlikely though.

It's a great chance for students to get legit.

I'm counting on the 'Ultimate Steal' promotion for Windows 7 and Office 2010. I don't mind waiting a couple of months after the respective release dates. As for Office Ultimate 2007, it ranges from $300-$900. Newegg, for example, has it for $357.99US and $599.99CAD (only for Office Professional 2007). In case any of you didn't know, Office 2007 Ultimate is the most complete Office suite. To get it for £40/$60 is truly a steal.

It might happen for Office 2010 but I can guarantee you it will never happen for Windows 7.

Why is that? They offered Windows Vista Ultimate.

Did they do it for XP? If not, I don't think so for 7.

You forget how old XP is.
#7.5 +Steeley on 23 Jun 2009 - 07:51
Well if not, it might be possible to buy the discounted Vista Ultimate and then when Windows 7 is released you could just pay the special upgrade price they usually offer for people who purchase Vista after a certain date. Time will tell.

So how long until the EU fines Microsoft for offering this at such a good price? Sounds like a monopoly strategy to me! ....

Haha. I will complain now.....lol
