Rumor: Windows 7 RTM sign off set for July 13?

Wzor is claiming that the final sign off is set for July 13th. According to a translation, this is the final roadmap for Windows 7:

FINAL ROADMAP FOR WINDOWS 7 [CLIENT-SERVER]:
6/1 - 6/19 BUILDING RTM ESCROW - already assembled RTM ESCROW.
6/22 - 7/10 RTM RECALL - assembly and search for candidates to the final RTM release.
7/10 WINDOWS 7 RTM FINAL BUILD TARGET - build day "gold code".
7/13 WINDOWS 7 RTM SIGN-OFF - the date of signing the final RTM release!

We previously reported that Windows 7 could RTM at the end of this month, but if Wzor is correct. and that's a big if, it looks like we may now have a final RTM date. Wzor is stating that the latest RTM branch build is 6.1.7263.0.win7_rtm.090619-1900, and the latest build in the winmain branch is 6.1.7233.0.winmain.090614-1655, and that the next winmain assembly will be the final RTM build.

We're still waiting on pricing information for Windows 7, and the final release date is still set for October 22.

Well its not THAT big of news. It was pretty much assumed.

Still good to know. The next big bit of news will finally be the pricing, whenever we get that.
#1.3 m.keeley on 22 Jun 2009 - 19:07
wow some people are easily impressed. What did you think was going to happen?

So June 19 turned out to be a dud. Well, probably it was a bit too soon still.

This is what I expected. Still can't wait though.

I guess the extra month between RTM and release compared to Vista is to make sure the launch goes smoothly.
#3.1 excalpius on 22 Jun 2009 - 19:23
I don't see an "extra month" anywhere? I see three days from the final gold build to the signing off. What month are you referring to?

You're talking between July and October (which is 3 months)? This is because it takes OEMs around 2-3 months to test the release and configure it according to their plans, not to make it go smoothly. This is the same as all the previous versions of Windows.
#4 venejo on 22 Jun 2009 - 18:27
Finally...

I hope, I can get it on MSDN AA till August

To bad they don't don't sell it on july 14th for everyone who wants to own it before the release date.
#6.1 Anaron on 22 Jun 2009 - 21:35
Yep. As far as I know, Windows 7 RTM will only be available to Microsoft's partners, PC manufacturers, and MSDN/Technet subscribers.

This would be impossible, obviously, seeing as it's going to take them a few months to print packaging with codes, ship in quantities, etc.
#6.3 sphbecker on 22 Jun 2009 - 23:05
It woudn't be impossible if they sold it as a download and shipped the box at a later date once supplies cought up.

Or just have a discounted download only version. where you make your own DVD.
#6.5 Thunderbuck on 23 Jun 2009 - 16:23
They will, sort of.

If you have a subscription with MSDN (my new one will be activated literally any minute now) or, um, TechNet, you should be able to download Win7 on RTM day, or very shortly thereafter.

I find it sad that you guys are basing this post solely off a posting on WZOR's site. Surely you have sources to verify this stuff?

Edit: and the latest rtm escrow build isn't 7263, it's 7264:

6.1.7264.0.win7_rtm.090620-1900

I thought the same.
#7.2 excalpius on 22 Jun 2009 - 19:20
Indeed. And let's note that Wzor previously announced that "RTM was happening now!", while those of us who actually KNOW what's going on stated clearly that RTM BUILDS were starting now and that Windows 7 would RTM mid to late July. Which is...um...now what they are saying... 8P
#7.3 Raa on 23 Jun 2009 - 00:47
I did say another month. WZOR has no clue, really.

Have Microsoft announced anything? If not then why is the say so of one site considered `official`?

No they haven't, and no it's not.
#8.2 C.J on 23 Jun 2009 - 19:32
Yep. Nowhere in our article did it say it was official.

That's why I asked, as I'm not sure when they're going to RTM. Seems to me like MS and Apple are racing to get their new OS out the door.
#9.5 m.keeley on 22 Jun 2009 - 19:08
That was a statement not a question.
#9.6 C.J on 22 Jun 2009 - 19:27
Snow Leopard is going to be released in September and Windows 7 is going to be released in October. Of course, those are both public releases. Snow Leopard doesn't 'RTM' as such as Apple is the only company who sell it on computers

Assuming that's based off net stats, remember all the PCs who aren't on the net. I doubt they have a higher ratio of Apple PCs than in the general population.

Why does Neowin keep posting "news" (unreliable rumours) from this unknown russian site?
#16.1 C.J on 22 Jun 2009 - 20:34
Because it's news? Or are rumors not news to you? Do you automatically know of a rumor before you hear it? No? Then it is news, because it is new knowledge to you.
#16.2 iamwhoiam on 23 Jun 2009 - 04:05
I hardly find the opinions of a pirate site as news.
#16.3 C.J on 23 Jun 2009 - 12:38
How so? You hadn't heard those opinions before, had you? Therefore, when you heard them, after reading this article, it was new to you. Information which is new to you is news. Therefore, this is news.

hmmm...kinda OT but I remember with Windows XP, it was devils0wn, with Windows 7 its now wzor, how about Windows Vista?

I read on a lot of sites that MS is currently building RTM builds and choosing the final build. Everyone says that they only "sign" it when that build suits to the needs of MS. And they will compile builds until Microsoft in happy with one of them.

I have a single question: Why??
Build 6260,6261,6262,6263,... they are all the same, isn't it?
Why does it take so long to decide and chose?

(I'm sorry I don't know that much about OS builds)

You can't expect all feature teams to submit bug fixes at the same time though. I mean Feature Team A might of got a bug fixed earlier than a bug from Feature Team B.

They were rumors, not announcements. Rumors are not always correct, so we publish the next rumor.

If you don't care, why do you even read and comment on these articles? Why not read and comment on the articles you care about? That is the beauty of choice...
#23 Winston on 22 Jun 2009 - 22:27
I don't get why people bother speculating. Although I can't say if the date is real or not, but it might just be a desired or tentative target date for them. But in theory the true RTM date wouldn't be known till they deem the build as good. Which I think is currently in the works, considering the point of an escrow build is put it in full scrutiny mode, where they actively monitor for show stoppers.

Win 7 would be ok if more software developers would start playing catch up. To this day I'm still having issues with Punkbuster playing some games using it. Damn API kicks etc driving me nuts.
