Over the past couple of days, news has come out that UK based company 'Cello' will release an HDTV which is capable of recording content onto SD memory. Currently the HDTV will only be available in Europe.

The set comes in various sizes up to 32" and has an integrated DVD player also. As a television it is nothing special, but the more in depth specs can be found here.

However, it is the PVR which records to SD which has tongues wagging. This seems a new manner in which to use the flash memory and allows users to record content easily onto a removable and universal source, which in turn can be used to play content on portable devices.

Currently most PVRs favor the use of disks, which can be easily scratched or smudged and are not as easily transferable to the newest generation of portables. Perhaps SD has grown into itself a little more and is ready to be the next generation of storage, which we will go into stores and find that our films and music are stored on?

About as awesome a coffee maker than can only give you coffee from pre-ground powder. Why have an HDTV that can only record in SD?

it records in High Definition to a SD Memory Card!

You should read the article properly - its not that long

My coffee maker only gives me coffee from pre-ground beans. So does my vacuum pot, french press, and espresso machine. Bad analogy, yo. Buy your coffee grinder separate from your coffee pot so that when one goes bad, you can replace it without impacting the value of the other.

I swear I will never understand the combo mentality. And as always, I will never use a toaster to poach my eggs.

Or record directly to USB storage, as this one claims...?

Some panasonic TVs have been able to do this for a while (2 years), not in HD admittedly but record to SD cards.

The question this raises is why would you want high def recording on a SD card. Most mobile device screens wont be able to display hi def.

Well, mobile devices wont, not yet at lest...
Its just an easy way to transfer recorded programs to your computer, or other TV.
