We've just received word that Microsoft has begun offering a discount on its Technet subscription. With Windows 7 coming out in October, this is a great time to sign up. Under this discount program, you can get a one year subscription for $249, a $100 discount below the normal price. While more expensive than most upgrade versions of Windows 7, it does offer users the full-versions of any SKU as well as many other Microsoft programs. Also, it is expected that these users will get Windows 7 before the general public in October.Interested users can visit the following link and enter the promo code "TEYFY09" to get the discount. The offer is set to expire on July 3.
Update: We've just been notified that UK users can enter the promo code "TNCARE09" to get the same discount (£187.37 instead of £234.21) -- We'd also like to point out that Technet subscriptions are for testing purposes only and not designed for general retail or commercial use. Please be sure to read all Microsoft provided licencing documentation to be sure the use of this subscription is done in a legal and ethical way.
Thanks to Chrono951 and InsaneNutter for the tip!

+1. Just did. For me, this beats the $100 Win 7 Pro upgrade being offered now b/c I will get RTM whenever released to technet (hopefully sometime in July) plus I get Office 2010 and Server 08 R2, plus anything else, all for $250.
Yes, but for 99% of users you're still pirating software with a Technet subscription. The licensing terms are limited and it is intended to be used for IT support. The $100 upgrade has the benefit of being fully legal. Using Office, Windows, etc, for personal use is violating technet's agreements, so technically you're just paying $250 to pirate software rather than using torrents. If I'm not mistaken, the Action Pack has much more favorable terms for the license.
Need to scrounge up some money for this
lulz
The only thing that sucks is I wont have Media Center.
But since I got it off eBay for $425US ($2,499 retail), I can't complain too much (also includes Visual Studio Pro, production licenses for MS Office, Expression Blend & Expression Web)

you got p0wned...lol subs are only legal via MS... I would be cancelling that if I were you
It's the best family value you will ever find from MS.
Basically, they're saying you can get full versions of any Microsoft product and use them all you want? Nope, that's actually illegial. It's for TESTING ONLY.
But, hey, I see a good deal, I'll take it, lol. Thanks Neowin, I've gotta tell my parents to buy this!

Why is that misleading? They are the full versions. The license just limits what you can do with them.
Thanks neowin!
But, "it does offer users the full-versions of any SKU as well as many other Microsoft programs.", according to the article!
lol. Maybe he just tests things out very thoroughly, like until the next OS comes out.
P.S. - I got 2 others to join in the past using those coupons. They are happy they got it. It has come in plenty useful with all that stuff. oh and they have the home/mce versions of Vista and XP available as well so I don't see why they wouldn't have the Home/MCE version of Win7 available upon it's RTM release.
It's an unlimited all you can eat! But remember, "Testing purposes only". That's the rules, so just "test" it thoroughly, like until the next OS comes out!

Try TNCARE09 its for the UK I believe, should get you 1 year for £187.37 instead of £234.21.
Might work in the Eu too.
Might work in the Eu too.
Yeah, that code seems to work for me from the gb technet site.
Cheers man!
UK = "We're sorry, the following error(s) have occurred: PromoCodeInvalidError "
what is this a joke?
MCE included in home premium professional and ultimate for windows 7.
for vista home premium and ultimate had that, business skiped MCE and that sucked. thats why this time round professional; has everything. almost..
Seriously, These US only Win7 promotions are insulting. Where is my motivation to buy MS products in Israel? I get no discount or any special offer what so ever, and the prices here are usually higher to to importing and taxes.
Thanks, Microsoft, For killing my enthusiasm for Windows 7.
as always... than then wonder why they are loosing the market's part. I think I'll ask my frend in US to divide the amount 50/50. How many licenses for Win7 is there?

Between International Laws and the EU constantly harassing MS, what did you expect?
EU BS aside, MS is usually limited on discounts based on laws of your home Country, so you might want to blame them as much as MS for it.
I just wanted to buy a damn key. Has nothing to do with local laws.

Wrong site. You want the Microsoft Store for pre-orders, not TechNet.
http://store.microsoft.com
I did some digging and found this MS page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscri...s/dd464803.aspx
from that page:
"Expired Subscriber Access
Q: After my Subscription expires can I still download products and claim product keys?
A: Only Subscribers with active subscriptions can download products and claim product keys, so you will not be able to download products after your Subscription has expired.
You will be able to view Product Keys you had claimed while your Subscription was active, but you will not be able to claim new keys. In order to access your prior claimed keys, you will have to Sign in to Live ID using the account and Subscription information that you had used to access your subscription benefits and claim those keys.
NOTE: Based on program and agreement restrictions, some expired Volume License subscribers are not currently entitled to view their previously claimed keys."
So, that sounds like to me that the licenses you are granted under the technet subscription (as long as you obtain the key during an active subscription and the iso image) are perpetual and the license itself does not expire, while your subscription to access more/new licenses does. This is what i was hoping and really makes this sound like the way to go.
is it exactly the same in all respects? Doesn't have an evaluation watermark, does it?
Technet product keys, do they expire after your technet subscription has run out, or do they never expire?
I am tempted to purcahse a subscription for the reason being that i am able to test microsofts software without having the problem of "oh noes, my cd key has expired after 2 months of use!"
Any ideas guys?
Thanks
Also the downloadable technet library is very usefull.
Then you have all the free software. the $250 is well worth it.
PS CD keys dont exxpire. i have been using a technet cdkey on my home pc for vista ultimate and it hasnt expired. They are normal retail software. So keep that in mind
I saved over 200 when vista and office 2007 were released by going through this route.
Plus you get all the software months before it's general release.
It seems to me that the "evaluation" purposes statement puts people off but it really shouldn't. You just "evaluate" the software until the next release.
By the way the "TNCARE09" code for the UK is an old 20% discount code that expires at the end of the month and not on the 3rd of July as implied in the article.

Agreed. The level of ethics I've seen in this thread is rather disappointing. It's not made any better by the fact that nowhere in the article is it mentioned that the 'full versions' are for TRIAL & TESTING ONLY...NOT for personal or commercial use.
It still costs big money to buy this technet thing. Its not like people are getting it for free or something. I'm even still debating if its even worth it due to its high cost.
Its also not liket his is some big secret, Microsoft has a whole website advertising it. Even the website displays the discount price. Apparently they do this several times each year.

It's not meant for home users though. It's meant for business to try before they buy. Or for developers to use for testing and development.
Do you really think Microsoft would want you to buy a $350 subscription over a regular license for Vista Ultimate...and another for Office 2007? Both of which would net the company more than your $350 subscription fee? No, they wouldn't. There's an old saying, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. It applies in this case....if you're going to use the subscription the legal way.
It's right on the technet frontpage as well...
"A TechNet Plus subscription includes premium resources to help you evaluate Microsoft technologies, plan deployments and support your current IT environment."
Key word, EVALUATE.
Really??? They have windows home server on there which I think may be for the home. You might want to let microsoft know about their own policies and that they are breaking them.
Thanks!
Edit: Nevermind, worked
Although it actually costs £227.65 as VAT @ 21.50% (Irish VAT) On £187.37 is £40.28

Are you sure?
Someone said earlier that a subscriber downloaded 300 Vista keys?
It is my understanding that we can download the Windows 7 Ultimate RTM and have it before retail in October. *Fingers crossed*
Going by that, it's safe to assume that Windows 7 RTM will be made available on MSDN/TechNet 8 or so days after it's finalized.
Windows 7 will be on Technet. For the time you are subscribed you get every OS. Way it always has been and I can't see they would change that for 7, especially when far more powerful OS's (2008 Server for example) are available.
Is there a trial so I can get a feel before buying this on such short notice?
That's the closest they can do to a trial of a trial.
Expiration Date: 1/1/1900
Perhaps this is something to do with the fact that I took up that "free" technet deal on neowin a few weeks back... Anyone else seeing that?
And then it takes a couple more days for the expiration to be accurate and the account to be fully "live."
Make sure their emails don't get dumped to spam, but don't worry about the expiration unless it's still that way in a week.
No.
for Win & and Office 2010 this will be well worth it plus getting to just play around with so much other stuff
"If you choose subscription type of "Download only" products are supplied from Ireland. All subscribers located within the EU will be charged Irish VAT, currently at 21.5%. Swiss subscribers will be charged VAT currently 7.6%."
I live in Dubai (Middle East). Will I be able to take advantage of the discount? I tried both the U.S and U.K versions, when it comes to billing, I am unable to change the country to the United Arab Emirates.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.
But are downloads still available once the one year subscription has expired?
For those interested, you can buy a 1 year subscription for $307 with the code below:
TNSUMMER09 <-- Should discount from AU$512 to AU$307
TechNet Plus Direct Download Only All Languages £234.21
£187.37
the 234 is crossed out.
I do actually get multiple keys right so basically I can install win 7 ultimate 3 times (when released), and office 3 times so all my 3 pcs can umm evaluate latest windows and office?
