Updated Office 2010 technical preview build leaks

Geez. Nothing is safe at MS. Windows 7 was always leaking and now it seems Office 2010 isn't safe. They need to tighten their borders!

They're doing it on purpose. Best way of ensuring a "hype" is if you let people get their hands on it, in a somewhat unofficial way. We love laws because we can break them.

Also, microsoft has a history with this, they loved the way "word" got around.

Not only is it good publicity, but they don't have to pay for it as well. Leaked builds and such can easily be tossed onto torrents that don't cost them anything.

It's Beta 1 but it still uses the "Technical Preview" name throughout. The build numbers and versions as well as the dates on everything including the digital signatures are all from the past few days, so it's the latest, and Beta 1.

And it's like amazingly fast and snappy too, far more so than Office 2007 ever was on the same hardware I use for testing. The splash screen for each app is barely noticeable and the app window just snaps into view, even after a reboot of the machine. Damned impressive stuff, for a beta.

It really is very fast. On this same system, it sometimes takes around 8 to 10 seconds for Office 2007 to load. With 2010 I see the splash screen for about 2 seconds then the app just instantly appears.

My first thought at that was: "That was too fast. That can't be right" lol

Each MS product has a codename. IN this case, Mondo is just this somewhat secret add-in (Also known as Limestone) which I haven't quite figured out what it does yet.

Files were digitally signed on July 8th, so it's pretty new. Don't assume that this is Beta 1. In fact, Beta 1, when released, may be older than this build. Hopefully we'll find out later today.

And WTF...Office STILL doesn't support tabbed documents? C'mon, Microsoft.

That would be a nice feature for older operating systems. The Windows 7 taskbar seems to offer a nice alternative to tabbed windows though. And Ribbon tabs + Window tabs? Ew.

Amazing, Powerpoint's built-in video clip editor has as many features as Windows Live Movie Editor Beta.

Actually, a great addition Office would be the ability to take video of the desktop.

From other forums, it sounds like "Office Mondo" is supposed to be a new SKU for Microsoft Office 2010, and seems to include everything plus special "Mondo"-only features and new components named "Office for Sales".

In other words, it will likely replace Office Ultimate and/or Enterprise (which had been the be-all/end-all in Office SKUs).
