Apple has reports its earnings for the third quarter of 2009, ending June 27, with surprising results, jumping up 15% over the last quarter of 2009. Apple posted revenue of $8.34 billion (US) and a net quarterly profit of $1.23 billion (US). These results are compared to last years third quarter revenue of $7.46 billion (US) and a net quarterly profit of $1.07 billion (US). Shares have risen from 1.19 per diluted share in the third quarter of 2008 to $1.35 per diluted share this quarter of 2009.Apple's revenue came from over 2.6 million Mac computers sold in the last quarter, selling more than 10.2 million iPods over the last quarter, down 7% from last years quarter, selling more than 5.2 million iPhones, up a staggering 626% over last years quarter reporting and downloaded more than 1.5 billion applications from the AppStore.
Apple's revenue and profits can be justified by the newly launched MacBooks pros, offering customers a higher quality MacBook pro with a cheaper price tag, seen at this years WWDC, aswell as the slashing prices of the iPhone 3G to just $99, and the launch of Apple's new iPhone 3GS.
The company has estimated profit earnings of $1.18 to $1.23 a share for it's fourth quarter and its revenue to come in at $8.7 to $8.9 billion (US)

Why would they? they're making more money than ever...
Didn't take long for this old piece of rubbish to rear its head. Apple don't make cheap (build wise) laptops, you want cheap go elsewhere. Apple make quality laptops, that compare in prices with the quality laptops that you get from HP, Dell, Sony. Most laptop companies make cheap brands and premium brands, apple just don't make the premium brands.
I always sort of get the message that people who make this comment can't tell the different from cheap and premium, do all there shopping at walmart, and can't see why people would spend extra on a BMW when they can get a kia, fancy hotel when they could sleep at a hostel with 11 other people in the room, and eat at a nice restaurant when you could go to McDonalds.

it's the same damn part give me a break. They don't get some special batch of intel chips that dell doesn't get. They don't get some special batch of WD hard drives that nobody else gets, it's the SAME hardware.
now if you want to say it's the whole experinece of having their OS plus their "amazing" tech support and what have you I'll give that to you, but please dont' believe that somehow Apple has a higher quality of the exact same hardware as everybody else.

and another stupid car analogy ....
Let me correct it. Apple laptops are just like a tuned car and absolutely not a BMW or even a Rolls Royce. When you compare a Kia and a BMW, they're made of different pieces and assembled at differents plants. Apple stuff is made of the SAME PIECES used in Dells, Asus or even Acer. So when you buy an Apple laptop, you're just buying an overpriced/tuned laptop and nothing more, you're just buying a tuned car with a nice shell and not a BMW.
And I dare you to find an Apple lappy specced like my PC ( Quad-core, Geforce 9800 GTS ... , I paid it 1600€) without Apple rapping your wallet for 56 generations ...

Actually it's not, the motherboards are custom made (they use the same chipsets etc but the board are made just for Apple), and most important (at least for laptops) the enclosure is made by Apple (the macbook pro is one of the best looking laptop ever).
They do share some parts (HD, video card, RAM) but not all
And the last thing I'm going to do is respect a company that cares so much about their enclosures when they still make headlines on a semi-annual basis for overheating, burns, explosions, etc.
God help us all if Apple ever builds a powerplant.

I am SO sick and tired of that lame car analogy! The correct apple car analogy will be this...
Simple example, I type this from my 24" iMac 2009 that just feels and looks so much better than my 20" Dell XPS One that is replaced. They are both still here in the office, but the materials, assembly, fit and finish of the iMac really show just how cheaply built the XPS One is.
To get the same features on a comparable Dell 24" XPS One would have cost me at least $1750, versus $1500 for my iMac and I get to run OS X as well as Windows 7 via BootCamp should I choose (without any stupid hacks or pirating an OS X license). Same holds true for their laptops, the MBPs just feel better built, so it's worth the money to me as a consumer to get the higher quality and more flexible product. And clearly I am not alone in the marketplace.
Worth requoting. Even the critics can agree: wow.
I kind of wonder why though. The S is better, but better to the point that justifies a 626& increase in sales?
I think this makes sense in a way that it was anticipated too far in advance. Probably most people waiting for months until a new version was available, and this explains why everybody got it right after it came out.
That was what I was thinking as well since the news about a new model spread out, though in the end I'm still not getting one for me.
It would be interesting to see the total amount of iPhone sales this year before the 3GS came out.
Part of that is due to people like me who finally jumped on this revision of the iPhone and a larger part of it is due to the iPhone being available is so many more countries at the beginning of the product cycle. And the now $99 iPhone 3g certainly doesn't hurt, I know people who were on the fence who are jumping now due to that price point.
Actually, before products actually get release into a production environment the yield per wafer needs to be in the high 90's. 93% yield is acceptable but anything below that will not get released into a production environment. The reason is that at packaging you will lose roughly ~2% more which brings the actual yield to edge of 90%.
The advanced technology in wafer fabs now a days can have a wafer yield up to ~99%
So in other words Apple doesn't pay hardware manufactures. It's really your beer talking...
