Microsoft's Laptop Hunter range of advertisements are quite popular; their goal is to show consumers how much money can be saved if you choose to purchase a computer packing the Windows operating system over an Apple branded one. Recently though, Apple made some price drops, and it seems it wasn't just to please consumers... they wanted those advertisements gone. Whilst that hasn't exactly been achieved, Electronista is reporting that they may have gotten the next best thing. After making said price drops, it was reported that Apple's PR contacted Microsoft's COO Kevin Turner directly and told him that the advertisements need to be removed. This apparently made him quite pleased, as it showed they were working, though nobody said whether or not the request would be fulfilled; as you can see, it hasn't.
The ad features a girl named Lauren and her mother, Sue, and originally it went a little something like this: Upon perusal of the Mac section in the store, Lauren stated, "this Mac is $2,000, and that's before adding anything." Sue chimes in with, "why would you pay twice the price?" and then Lauren, ever witty, comes back with an, "I wouldn't." However, this has been changed. Now the ad goes thusly (you can watch the video below, if you're so inclined): Upon reaching the Apple part of the shop, Lauren notes, "this one only has a 250GB hard drive. It seems like you're paying a lot for the brand."
As we mentioned, the video is embedded below, so let us know what you think of the change.

Apple's faceless too considering 'their biggest shareholder' nearly died and they didn't tell anyone.
Is your primary concern the stock.... or the stockholder's health?
Its sad that many could careless about the latter.
Not sure about the privacy laws where you live, but in the US, people have the absolute right NOT to disclose their medical information if they don't want to.
Its sad that many could careless about the latter.
If anyone is concerned about the latter, it is only because it affects the former. It's not like is a close, personal friend of the millions of stockholders.
Actually, in the US, if a "public" companies top executives have health conditions that could directly affect their ability to run the company, and thus affect a shareholders decision to buy or sell company stock, then they have to disclose such things if they want to continue working in their current capacity.
Steve Jobs went on medical leave, so technically he wasn't working for apple at the time of his illness, which is why he technically didn't have to disclose anything. Had he stayed on as acting CEO during that time, he would have.
Its sad that many could careless about the latter.
It is sad that you think "could care less" actually makes sense in the context in which you used it.

It really is.
She is still the same person eyeliner and makeup or not. I would definitely do Lauren.
Yup. I'd hit that.
more or less - well its a mac too much money for them
I think any straight man would... and maybe some gay guys. I, for one, would let her sit on my face.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to say that, not that I disagree.
+1 on Apple needing to grow up and take what they dish out. Reminds me of kids in middle school (jr. high) that would poke fun relentlessly at someone, but as soon as they were poked fun at they cried and ran to the teacher.
QFT
Don't blame her! Why the hell are Seagate and Western Digital making these drives in the first place... Talk about encouraging piracy. RIAA should sue them, not consumers!
And, Lauren is too cute. Beautiful!
I blew past the 250GB line years ago! Also lots of people are now just getting a laptop and not a desktop, so they want a bigger HDD in the laptop as well. It's also why external USB drives are so cheap now as well, people are buying them up quick since it's a easy solution.
I have 1TB and im using half of it already. I have 320 external which is full.

V4? That would not be a good car... Maybe you mean 4 cylinder
let's say your DVDs are 6GB (average).
6x20 = 120, so therefore you'd have 40GB left, then take away the photos so like, 20GB left or less?
Then nock 5GB off for 1000/1024 differences and MST, so 15GB, and 4GB off for OS if XP or 15GB if vista, meaning you should in theory have either 11GB or 0GB of space free...
80GB free, what bloody compression are you using, 1044-Zip requiring only 512TB of RAM to decompress anything ?
Just when you said, oh that will be enough, it becomes enough to make something else even more viable to put on the computer, first it was music, then photos, now movies.

I assume by "DVD rip" he meant a DVD converted to AVI, which is generally about 700MB or so. So your math is completely wrong.
I don't know what is the quality of the rip but it must be poor.
I have 320GB. I'm out of space. Games these days take over 10GB each.
*However* I've taken the GMAT and all the information I had didn't even come close to 5gb. It isn't like the videos provided in these things are uncompressed AVCHD Blu-Ray stuff.
Because the truth hurts doesn't it?
What? I mean because of her yammering on and on through the whole commercial.
Really? Thats whats you came up with.
Lets hear your voice with a picture of your body.
I think her voice is kinda hot. You know the saying, opinions are like ********, and I'd eat hers.
IMO - MS did not need to make the change... but they figured if they did and changed it into THIS (not flattering for Apple by any means) - this would get more views - and look - it's true.

It was probably a good laugh for them. Let's see if Apple cries over this one now.
it is really far more friendly company.
"... and I got exactly what I wanted."
"She usually does."

"She usually does."
Is it just me, or does that part look like it was done in front of a green screen?
Apple: MY cheeseburger costs $2,000, minus lettuce, Tomatoes and pickels, that's extra!
MS: Mine costs $971.xx. I got what I wanted.. a fully loaded Cheeseburger.

HAHAHA, funny. LOL
Also, the fact that Apple could drop their prices so quick means that there really is a substantial "Apple Tax"... LOL Too funny.
LOL, they are paid actors in a scripted commercial.
Excuse me? Shown where? I'd like to know some of the names of these people since some of the girls look cute.
Come on, I'll wait on your reply with articles.
Apple: We want you to change the commercial.. your move, Microsoft
MS: Checkmate.
You must be freaking kidding me. Typical Apple FANBOY.
alright lets see you get the same exact thing under the hood where just charging you more because it has an apple on it
Apple PR: yo Kevin, as you can see we cut our price by $0.01, you need to stop your ads, they hurt our feelings.
Kevin: LULZ QQ moar.
pwned.
and damn, Lauren is hot
Ads... you got to love em....
Ads... you got to love em....
By better... you mean what? Maybe you are assuming that only Macs have larger screens? Better casing? WHAT? I suppose you like paying more for that glossy effect which you will "enjoy" only when your laptop is turned off. OH I SEE, you like bragging you got a MAC, cute. And since you are bringing the student thing, why the hell would she care that it has a "lower CPU"? (which in this case must be your opinion since I didn't know all Macs were running with the best CPUs).
She first says that mobility is of more importance to her than the size, so she stands next to the 15inch Mac and says it has 250GB but is too expensive because you pay for brand rather than what you get.
Then she goes over the the smaller 13inch Dell and she gets the one that come up to around $973, and she is happy with it.
What I am saying is if you compare the laptop that she got and the equivalent 13inch Mac, especially after student discount ( She did mention that she is a student) She will get a lot more from the 13inch mac for $1099 than she got from the 13Dell for $973, but they forgot to mention that. After all they arre not comparing them one next to the other.
I really dont give a flying **** if you like PC more than Mac. My comment is referring to the add. Go see a doctor if you have a problem with your frustration.
I've owened PCs for 15 years and I still have a Desktop Gaming PC and another Laptop running Fedora 11. I purchased my 133inch Macbook pro just a month ago and I couldn't be happier. Battery lasts me for 6:30 - 7:00hours which matters a lot to me since I tend to travel for work.
Macbook Pro: $1099
2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x1GB
160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Dell Inspiron 13: $724
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 (2 Dimms)
160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
8X Slot Load CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive)
So, which one is cheaper again? Oh, and if you notice, the Dell's got a hundred or so megahertz on that Mac.
That aside, I'm confused because I expected it to be a new ad with the first "Lauren", the redhead who wasn't cool enough to be a Mac person as she said.
By the time you install vista/windows 7 its what 20GB space
Then ya got Office which is around 2gb space
Now if your like me and you got the CS4 stuff thats around what 8GB space.
Then if you use your laptop for games, IE WOW, EVE etc thats gonna snap up a fair chunk of space, kind of around 15GB for both.
Then if your like me and do alot of photography and store ya images on the HD and burn the original to DVD, well i could quite easily fill 40GB hd space
Then ya got music and mines 30-40gb
Thats a good 120GB gone like that!
I aint even started storing my PSD files yet or any DVD rips i want
So yer to me in a laptop HD space is everything, i would rather have crap loads of space than hardly any at all
By the time you install vista/windows 7 its what 20GB space
Just this morning I installed Win7 in a VM; the .VHD file is currently 5.5GB.
I don't have it nearby, but from what I remember, the installer shows the required space as well below half of that (closer to a quarter, in fact, rather than half).
For a while I had Win7+Office on a netbook with nothing but an 8GB SSD.
As for what you collect over time, that'll obviously vary from person to person, but so far, we're talking about a total (being generous) of 6.5GB instead of your 22GB claim.
I'm sorry, what were we talking about again? :-)
Kids...
Irony...
Yes indeed you are just a kid
He doesn't get it, how amusing.
Your debate skills are like that of a child, so I suspect you probably are one too. Try again when you have some maturity.

On the other hand you look at Apple's ads and you have all kinds of issues. Macs get viruses, Macs freeze/crash, Macs have all the same issues that PCs do, but Apple does not give the customer this information. It would be like if 2 people were selling hard drive. Salesman 1 makes an ad saying, "Salesman 2's hard drives fail" when both Salesman 1's and 2's hard drives fail.
But either way, the fact that Apple had to complain about the ads makes Microsoft the real winner here. With all the great decisions and ideas Microsoft has been putting out lately I can't wait to see what is next and see if Apple can actually compete. Apple definitely could not take what it dished out in the Ad sector, now lets see how well the New Zune does compared to the iPod Touch. Which I have yet to see any rumors on it being HD while the Zune is. This I believe will really help Microsoft. 7 though criticized for being a rebuilt Vista is awesome and really puts shows Microsoft is back in the game.
USB :up 3 usb ports only (my old machine featured 6 usb).
Screen :Matte is not a option anymore and just average screen resolution.
Gpu :up to 9600m gt, there are not option to choice to a professional video card (Quadro or FireGL)
Sound card :a standard sound card.
And so on.
Apple is selling consumer machines as "pro" notebook but if you want a real professional notebook then you MUST buy a "PC".
Even for a Mac user, I'm deceived by this poor comment. I mean, the camera stopped going crazy in the Mac section, so I thought "they're gonna have a looong speech about Macs, let's get prepared", but nopes, not at all. Maybe in the other Laptop hunters, we'll see what happens...
