When Logitech released the G9 mouse, a big fuss kicked up in regards to the design and appearance of the mouse, with a lot of people disliking the square, hard shape of it. Now, Logitech have introduced their latest mouse, which aims to get loyal customers that stuck with their much loved Logitech G5s when the Logitech G9 was released, to consider an upgrade.The Logitech Gaming Mouse G500 is, in Logitech's words, "the successor to the classic Logitech G5 Laser Mouse," and has a new look, higher maximum dpi (dots per inch), as well as onboard memory. As is the norm with Logitech gaming mice, the dpi can be bumped up and down on the fly, but unlike the G5, the G500 can go all the way up to 5700 dpi.
There's the usual weight cartridge which slides into the bottom of the mouse, allowing for the mouse to be fine tuned depending on how heavy the user likes their mouse to be. Interestingly, the new appearance looks very much like a cross between the G5 and the G9, and that applies to the features too: the scroll wheel looks very similar to the G9 one, except that the scroll wheel on the Logitech G500 has a button just below it that allows the scroll wheel to switch from click-to-click scrolling to free scrolling, something the G5 didn't offer.
Ruben Mookerjee, director of product marketing for gaming at Logitech, said "as more and more people make gaming with family and friends the new night out, Logitech continues to push the envelope with the Logitech G-series."
"If you're getting serious about gaming – or have already seen the light – then the best way to dive ever deeper into the game is by putting the G500 mouse in your good hand."
However, whether or not the new look and features on the mouse will be enough to persuade gamers to upgrade remains to be seen.

yea i really want a gaming mouse, but the way my desktop is and the way things on it are organized the cable that is on all of the gaming mouses would be in the way, would break any benefit there is
ill try reorganizing on my desktop soon, but ive never got it to work with a cable

The resolution of the mouse does make a difference. If 2 different mice have different resolutions then one is going to be faster than the other and hence the mis-click. It happens because I do it every now and again (mostly when moving from touchpad to external mouse)
Mamba... ?
It feels great. Although if you don't need all the features (see tour for quick flip, search demo), then there are probably cheaper ones which should also feel comfortable.

I like the MX 1100 more. I have both the MX Revolution and 1100 and they have pretty much an identical feature set set however I like the shape of the MX 1100 more.

And it's cheaper. The only downside with it is that it requires batteries, it's not rechargeable.
It's a speed setting. Fast, Normal or Slow. Same as changing it in Control Panel tbh.
The VX mouse (MX's brother) has 1 single AA battery, and that lasts at least a month with 8 hour per day use, I tried the G5 and didn't like it, cable ... arggh!

Only gripe with the MX518 is how fast the mice buttons get dirty.
Have my baby still here....Man this mouse is great and lasting a long time.
The only problem is the charger's connectors. They have gotten dirty and it takes 2-3 seconds to correctly put it in place and stay charging but other than that, the MX1000 still kicks ass.

I have the same problem with my MX1000. I have accidently hit the mouse off the table so many times but it still works.
The only thing I miss about the MX rev is the "free" scrolling. Can anyone clarify if the G500 has the super fast nearly infinite scroll like the MX rev does? The scroll on the 518 is okay, but nowhere near the fluidity of the Revolution. I miss is oh so omuch.
Out of all these mice i prefer the Habu, because it is the most comfortable in my hand and the razer mouse buttons are just fantastic. That being said, I notice very little tracking/accuracy difference between that and the g5 and use the g5 as my portable mouse i carry with my laptop as it is smaller and lighter. There is nothing inherently wrong with my g5 either, I'm quite happy with it. My Habu failed a little over a year after I Purchased it (usb cable ruptured internally) Microsoft was expedient and sent me a replacement immidiatley no questions asked. I was impressed as I have had more questionable times with Logitech support.
The MX revolution though.. The charging mechanism is cumbersome. If you're running low on batt, you need to prop it up on a dock, the mouse is unusable at that time. The Mamba interests me because of its usb charging mechanism which means you just have to deal with a wire while its charging the batt, you dont lose functionality. Apologists might blame me for not charging every night or some other type of extra responsibility I should have done but the bottom line is if I have to do anything more than I used to with a corded it has failed.
In addition the default mouse settings without the drivers are unnacceptable so you MUST install and run the logitech software at startup and sometimes if i plug and unplug the receiver from my laptop, it will forget to apply the changes till i run the configuration software
Now that being said, I love the dynamic scroll wheel. I miss it whenever I'm using another mouse. I also love the zoom slider. It is insanely useful and the software is powerful enough to keymap it for specific applications. This is majorly useful in games that use alot of keyboard buttons. Also, I mapped out the side scroller to browse through tabs in Firefox.exe. Its insanely useful. I miss it alot when I'm on my other mice.
So caveat emptor. These are my experiences with the 3 mice. Happy Mouse hunting!

I think this mouse is the best I've had out of any so far, especially when comparing price. Got it for 20 bucks
