An image of one of the very first Microsoft stores currently being built has surfaced on Maximum PC.

We've previously reported that the first Microsoft store locations would be in both Arizona and California. The picture shown below is from the Scottsdale, Arizona location, with a second store in Mission Viejo, California currently in the works. Both locations are planned to open this fall.

While there are plans to open more stores in the United States, Microsoft is planning to expand its stores globally as well. Microsoft stores are set to open in major European cities such as London.

Recently, the Microsoft store logo has been revealed, and documents were leaked revealing the possible layout of the store. However the company has said that those designs were early prototypes and that the plans were not finalized yet.

Wonder if they will make it so you can only buy some produces at there store, or there store first? Cause i can see no other reason for this there products are already in every store that sells computers or games. I guess it is possible Microsoft would want to show off all there products in one place and show how they can be used together maybe.

Wouldn't that also be an argument against having multiple electronics retailers? I mean, they all sell the same stuff...

No, electronic retailers are in the business of, you know, selling electronics. If they didn't, they would be in another business. Microsoft are in the software business. They need some advantage to getting into retail. Of course, if they did this, there would quite a few retailers upset at them.

I wonder if there will be huge lines during the release of Windows 7, as there was for Win 95, and you see for the iPhone?

Weird how on the signage they havent included Windows Mobile but have Bing.
#3.1 Recon415 on 09 Aug 2009 - 22:51
Windows Mobile would be under "Windows" which is already up there.

Look closer, "Windows" is actually "Windows 7" and also Windows Mobile is having a name change to Windows Phone, which, even still is not there. I wonder why?

I assume because they won't sell Windows Mobile in their store because it's other companies hardware that it runs on? I assume this store will only sell thing's they've made (so in the case of Windows 7, just the OS, not the whole PC).

They'll still probably have demo units in there though.

I know, how many bings will we be able to buy? Will there be a limit of 10 per customer. I would ask bing, but since it has started lying about stuff I might stay away from it.

What is Bing lying about?

... Johnny obviously hasn't been keeping up with the times. They are selling PC's from all of the manufacturers, so why wouldn't they sell phones?

\ me thinks it's because they are ashamed of Windows Mobile... once Windows 7 for mobile (Windows Phone?) launches, it will likely be added to their in-store offering \

Was expecting the first one to be in Seattle or some city in Washington, guess not.

Compared to what I'm used to see in town where I live this is a very stylish construction sign

The best ones I have seen are in the UK, where they actually do an image of what the store would look like, complete with customers and everything.

Haha and when one opens up in New York, I'm just gonna go in with my MacBook Pro and sit around until they get ****ed off.
#8.1 PeterTHX on 10 Aug 2009 - 03:53
No, they'd just wonder why someone so insecure about their overpriced hardware would have nothing better to do than sit around their store.

I went into an Apple store with my "I'm a PC" T-shirt the other day. The shoppers didn't get it. The employees did; They gave me dirty look.

unless Microsoft puts out deals that are exclusive to their stores, i see no need to go out of my way into a Microsoft store when my local bestbuy/futureshop would offer all of these services... not suggesting one is being built by my house though.

I don't think i need a specialized store to get help with my Zune/copy of windows vista.. etc.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm in the UK, but had myself wondered why all the fuss? Surely it will sell Windows 7....just like a number of online retailers do......as with Xbox....etc. If anything I'd expect it to have a higher price in their stores due to their increased overheads than some of the warehouse/distribution only outlets.

I can't see any reason for these stores from a strategic sales point of view, however, it will provide a unique way for MS to show off integration and new products to the everyday folk.

I'd pay a premium for good hardware (HP/Lenovo) having clean, purpose built installs of windows 7 on them...

also, I'd like to be able to...you know... FIND zune accessories. I know it's only THE SECOND BEST SELLING media player on the market, but you'd think they could find room in the piles and piles of cheap ipod devices that all do the exact same thing but only work for stuff 2-3 gen old... for a zune dock/speaker set in best buy >>

It's sad you call HP/Lenovo good hardware

unfortunately, the world is driven by ipod not zune.. and most things are incompatible with zune, thats a tradeoff you loose on when you pick zune.. I myself own a zune, i love it, but theres certain things i cant do with it that most ipod users takes for granted..

"Mission Viejo, California " nice its about 10 minutes from my house
#11 texasghost on 10 Aug 2009 - 15:37
My opinion of having a Microsoft store is that those stores should release software before other stores. Such as Windows 7. The Microsoft stores would be the stores to do early releases...then followed by the Best Buys of the world.

That would cause Apple stores to have to retaliate.
