Yup, that's right. Apple have extended the matte display option on customised orders from Apple.com to the 15-inch MacBook Pros. For $50 more, you get a screen less susceptible to glare from light (particularly the sun), with supposedly less vibrant colours, no glass screen, and a silver bezel as opposed to a black bezel. The news follows rumours that Apple were considering extending the matte option from the 17-inch MacBook Pro to its other offerings, but it remains to be seen whether or not this trend will continue. With the 13-inch now a part of the Pro family, could the baby Pro be the next in line for the antiglare option?

Well if they planned on never using matte again then it would cost them more because they now have to order different screens which means more expense.
No, it's more expensive to manufacture matte displays. Which means they saved money when they went glossy and now charge more for matte.....
Really? I always assumed it was the other way around.
He is wrong, the fact is that it is more expensive to install matte displays, because they designed the system for glossy only. Notice on the matte laptops, they have a silver border around them, which doesn't look as good as the glossy option./
I disliked glossy screens, but I got used to it.

I'm just picky
Really? I think it looks horrible, it looks like a temp fix.
So removing the glass plate won't accomplish anything, you'll have to replace the entire panel behind it.
Also, they finally fixed one of the serious problems that was keeping me from upgrading. BUT. They still have 0 extensibility (no eSata/3g/USB3/FW expresscards) and the non removable battery means that when I'm onsite, I have no recourse if my battery runs out.
They should remove the Pro moniker, not tack it on to more of their laptops.
Pathetic.
Lol right. That's why you don't have much money left in your wallet too.
Money in my wallet, or hot chicks... not a complicated choice.
Why? I don't want ultra reflective screens shining in my face all day
It's great for marketing, and I once fell for it. But when I came back to my senses, matte displays are far superior. I don't want to see my face or the light behind me on the screen all day. All my displays are matte (Dell 2408WFP, Dell 2007FP, all S-PVA), and the glossy ones just uses pathetic attempts to try to hide a crappy panel. My Lenovo T400 has a crappy TN panel, but still better than a glossy screen
I have a macbook pro with a matte screen and i love it
I don't known why Apple decided to drop the matte screen.
Instead, Apple put as the only option, not a glossy screen but a damn glassy screen. U_U
MBP 13" still has 16bit color. Are you sure your MBP really has 32bit color and not just "millions(actually thousands) of colors" written by Apple?

What percentage of 13" notebooks have a non-TN 8-bit display? Can you list any in the same price range?
http://yfrog.com/5dpicture2swjp
That's what the graphic chip is capable of, it has nothing to do with the display itself.

All laptop displays have either a 8-bit or a 6-bit display. Most are moving to 6-bit now, and Apple did the move a few years ago. This has upset some people.
LOL, niceeee
Imagine how annoying it would be if everyone found out how bad Windows was compared to OS X, and then had to continue working with ie6 and explorer. There would be riots. I bet management stole the power cord, so that noone can switch it on without their permission.
No they are not.... it's just that they are saturated to the max and gives you the illusion that the colors are more vivid. But they are not exact and that's what counts really.
Maybe you should let people decide that for themselves.
You are right but things are different under effect of Steve's RDF
Glossy screens on the Macbooks are fine if you use them at full brightness because they overcome just about all glaring. But then if you're on a battery you don't want to use it at full brightness all the time and that's where the problem is.
Because, WHO THE HELL in his right mind would want to do any kind of color correction on a glossy screen?!?!?! I mean they are over-saturated and they have a poor grayscale palette... this is a nightmare if you want to get any sort of color accuracy!
What a bad choice from apple to have chosen glossy screen! Damn...
