Prices for the 16GB and 32GB models of Zune HD have apparently leaked according to Gizmodo. The screen shots shown below appears to have come from a Best Buy inventory. If Best Buy's inventory is correct, it also backs up the September release date.

The Zune HD prices listed are as followed:

16GB: $219.99
32GB: $289.99

We've reported on what to expect when the Zune HD launches including a video that has recently surfaced showing a demo of the Zune HD's interface. Even though we reported that there would be a 4GB, 8GB, and possibly a 120GB model, pricing information for those models has not been revealed yet.

Even though there are plans to launch the Zune HD internationally, release dates and pricing information is currently unknown for countries outside the United States.

16GB price

32GB price

CNET has also posted a hands on photo gallery featuring the Zune HD browser. Among the features shown include the web browser itself, favorites, search, and the on screen keyboard. It appears you can view the screen either horizontally or vertically.

=====ATTENTION=====

A video has been posted!! Thank you Engadget!

http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/11/zune-hd...tion/#continued

Shows you the keyboard and more. We need a link, or a new article, on Neowin relating to that. Hope everyone enjoys the vid!

Gaming will be supported like in previous Zune versions, and Apps are planned, but they aren't releasing details yet

Looks good, the picture app seems a little buggy. And why was the browser so slow to respond. It looks like he moves his finger, half a second later the page moves.

what about a 4gb model for $99?
sorry for dreaming people
#3 +Napalm Frog on 11 Aug 2009 - 02:36
I got a Zune last Christmas, but if the 4GB comes out as cheap as the current gen, I'm upgrading immediately.
#4 JHH on 11 Aug 2009 - 02:36
Won't buy one but compared to Apple's "twice the space = twice the price" this is pretty good.
(1 reply) #5 QuietStorm21A on 11 Aug 2009 - 02:42
i cant wait i hope they come out with a 64gb real soon after launch.
#5.1 NPGMBR on 11 Aug 2009 - 13:29
Can't wait either but the music alone on my Zune80 would eat up ALL the space on a 32g model. So I want to get one but I don't want to have to turn around and buy another one when a larger size launches.
(1 reply) #6 ahhell on 11 Aug 2009 - 02:47
Damn that is awesome.
I guess my 80GB will have a permanent home in my car.
Me wantsssss it.
#6.1 Quikboy on 11 Aug 2009 - 07:37
Be careful someone doesn't break in your car and steal it. Either the car or the Zune. I've heard about GPS dashboard units being swiped.

I'd hate to see a full page loaded with tons of JS. My iPod Touch 2G isn't the fastest at it, but for a mobile device it's pretty quick and is a lot quicker with 3.0 (though 3.0 comes with tons of bugs on the iPod). With IE being one of the slowest browsers out there, I'm not sure I'd want to see any comparisons.

However, it doesn't look bad and that keyboard and slightly transparent look makes it look pretty nice. Wouldn't mind trying it out, but I doubt it'll be replacing my iPod anytime soon.

There is hope they used one of the lighter weight browser kits, like the one the iPhone/touch use. If they don't they will get loads of grief. It needs to be as good or better than the touch.

It's as good or better than the iPod's browser. See CNET's article.

Any word on native apps for the Zune HD?

That's the main problem with the Zune HD compared with the iPod Touch/Phone, you get no App Store at the moment. MS said "soon after launch" but I would not hold my breath on that...

If you want Apps/Games on your media player, your best bet is still the iPod for the moment.
#9.2 tuxplorer on 11 Aug 2009 - 08:20
I agree. I was really hoping MS would push apps on the Zune more with this last incarnation so it becomes everything minus the phone capability. But I read they won't be pushing apps as much as Apple's App store. Without apps, I'd very well go for the next best device with apps and touch from that other company.
#9.3 epple on 11 Aug 2009 - 12:23
We do have the XNA platform for developing games and apps, but the Zune Marketplace is currently only for music/videos AFAIK.

I bet (and hope) with the launch of this device the Zune 4.0 software and the addition of applications and games to the Zune Marketplace will see the day of light.
#9.4 Dashel on 11 Aug 2009 - 21:40
So what would be three killer apps that are must have's for the iPod?

Anyone know if it'll have a way to expand the memory beyond 16/32Gb? like an SD slot or something?
#10.1 cakesy on 11 Aug 2009 - 03:16
No way. The device is just far too small. They may release a 64gb version soon, since Apple will release a 64gb touch in September.

Huh? How is this too small for a memory slot? It's roughly the size of a smartphone, so there is certainly room for at least a MicroSD slot.

But there IS NO MicroSD slot, lol. So you can tape your card on the back, but it's not gonna be reading the music

iPod Touch 16Gb = $300 VS $220
iPod Touch 32Gb = $400 VS $290

Competition is good, maybe the release of the ZuneHD will make Apple lower their price.

The Touch still has the edge in the applications/games. ZuneHD will not have those for a while.
#11.1 cakesy on 11 Aug 2009 - 03:17
If that pricing is to be believed it is amazing. They will move these, at that price, that is for sure.
#11.2 +Xerxes on 11 Aug 2009 - 05:21
Why would Apple lower their prices? the iPod sells fine how it is, there is no incentive to drop the price...maybe if the Zune starts rapidly eating into their marketshare but that is yet to be seen.

We all know how aggressive Microsoft can be in their advertising and ball game if they want to get to the top - you only have to take a look at the XBOX 360 to show this, and even more so, with Windows.

It won't happen overnight, but at that pricing, it has a *very* good chance.

Now all Microsoft needs to do is follow a similar under-cutting strategy in Europe and Asia. I really hope we don't get it at the same price as the current iPod Touch in the UK :/
#11.5 .Neo on 11 Aug 2009 - 10:23
People don't seem to realize that those iPod prices are still based on last year. With this year's release Apple might very well drop the 8 GB iPod touch and sell the 16 GB one for roughly the same price.

That's the price you pay TODAY to get one of those iPod Touch. Unless Apple lower the price when the ZuneHD is out... And we have no indication when Apple is going to release the 3rd gen iPod Touch or at what price.

All my Apple hatred beside, I bet you that Apple will lower the prices, too. With the new models coming out in a month, the old ones will go down. And they're not going to be "old" ones, just smaller sizes, I think.

Mate, life is too short to hate a company like this. Get over it. Apple and Microsoft both can be annoying, and both have produced great products.

A few commercials from Microsoft got the Apple legal department on a warpath, as well as got the prices for Apple portables dropped. Don't be so sure.

When is the Zune HD out again? October, november?

When does Apple update its iPod line again? September?

I see it something more along the lines of :
iPod Touch 16GB @ 259 CAD
iPod Touch 32GB @ 329 CAD
iPod Touch 64GB @ 429 CAD

So yes, judging from that picture, the upcoming iPod Touch may be more expensive, but I bet it'll do a lot more. The camera, microphone and built-in controls in the earphones, google maps which didn't seem to be there (the guy asked in the other video and got no answer), the App Store, the stability after 3 years of testing, etc. etc.

Obviously the iPod Touch won't do all those HD gimmicks, I think we'll have to wait until next year for that.
(2 replies) #12 a1ien on 11 Aug 2009 - 03:08
There will be no 4GB or 8GB versions of the zune HD. Any 4GB or 8GB players will be mini-sized.

I think the above is obvious.

Now if the 32GB is on sale a little say... 10% off, well then I'll juse have to jump.
#12.1 andrewbares on 11 Aug 2009 - 21:22
Umm, it's already 80 bucks cheaper than the iTouch!!! What more could you ask for??
#12.2 PsykX on 12 Aug 2009 - 13:24
Let's see how things develop. Maybe it's 80 bucks cheaper because it IS worth 80 bucks cheaper... We need full specs, we need to see the full OS, and we need to know if there's an App Store...

I might as well just go read the new article published here on Neowin

I don't think you're meant to be carrying around a bunch of feature-length 1080p movies. I mean, how many times are you going to be hooking up your Zune to you or your friend's TV to watch feature-length movies? Really?

I'll be lining up for the 16GB easily.

So if it didn't have the HD output capability, the sizes would be fine ... ? I'm not sure that logic works, given that you don't have to use it, nor would people appreciate a massive price hike just so you could fit more HD videos.

A lot of smartphones can do the things you've mentioned... the iPhone can do all that and more for years now. And unlike your 'cheapy' digital audio player, the iPhone actually has an excellent media interface and so to say, good sound quality for an audiophile too (combined with good earphones anyway).

Actually it has had copy/paste for a couple of months now. And the media interface on the iPhone is still unmatched by any other smartphone.

Better pricing then I expected (if this is true). However, I'll have to hold out until a 64gb comes out. Need all my music on there. But with those prices, I'm sure the Zune will cut into the iPod even it is a little.
