Several rumor sites are now reporting that Apple will be holding its now annual media event on September 7th. The event has been used in the past to launch devices like the iPod nano in 2005 and the iPod touch in 2007. Apple has not confirmed the event so it is still speculation at this point.

The event is likely a launching pad for rumored updates to the nano, touch and iTunes 9. Several cases had appeared online earlier this year depicting cameras on the next generation nano and touch and updates to iTunes 9 would likely include Blu-Ray support and some sort of social media integration.

FinancialTimes also speculated a few weeks ago that Apple was working with record companies to bundle interactive booklets and possibly even applications with full album purchases on iTunes. This project, codenamed Cocktail, is also rumored to launch at the event.

The real question on everyone's mind is whether or not the Apple tablet will launch at this event. While initial rumors stated it would, sources speaking with TheLoop say the device will not be launched until 2010 and this September event will focus strictly on music.

Yeh I thought the September events were usually music/media focussed. The Apple TV was released in a Sept event as well, so I'd expect a new iPod Touch Lineup. I'm not sure how much more they can do with a nano, a camera is usefull, but other than that there's not a lot.

But will it be super-absorbant?

If I'm a university student and elligible for that $259 rebate on an iPod Touch (until supplies last they say), should I wait until they release the new ones and then I could buy my MacBook Pro and get it, or they would still give me the old one? The promotion ends September 8th, so it's pretty darn tight... And the "until supplies last" thing makes me think they will just give away the iPod Touch 2Gs

What do you guys think?

The promotion ends in September...
So no if you wait you will have to wait until next summer. This promotion serves the purpose of not only boosting sales but to empty iPod inventory before Apple releases a new lineup.

I don't know if I was reading the same promotion you read at school but the poster on my school was about buying a new mac computer and getting $259 rebate (that you could put towards an iTouch)

Yeah, Buy a Mac and get a $259 rebate on an iPod. This is exactly what I'm talking about!
