Microsoft is looking for some Windows 7 fans to throw launch parties between October 22-29.

You can apply for the competition and if selected you'll not only receive a special "Signature Edition" of Windows 7 Ultimate but your very own Windows 7 Party Pack - woo! Microsoft wants you to hold parties in the following countries:
  • Australia
  • Italy
  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Mexico
  • France
  • Spain
  • Germany
  • USA
  • Hong Kong
  • UK
  • India
If you're interested in throwing a party then apply now as spaces are limited. Microsoft will let lucky winners know on or around September 17. Good luck!

I'm definitely applying. I'm gonna gather my personal geek entourage and rock it to windows 7 like it's christmas baybeh!! Do they send the doritos in the party pack or should I provide those myself?

Well some more info in case somebody needs it:

First they will ask you what OS you are currently running and they will 'make' you run the Win7 upgrade advisor to confirm that you can upgrade to win7.

Then they ask you what you will be willing to do: throw a party, invite at least 10 people, use the website to send invites, take pics, fill a survey after the event, etc

Then they make you sign some "we own your life" terms ala facebook old privacy policy. It also says that it is up to you to serve alcohol and that minors shouldn't drink it

I'm interested in this, but do they advertise your party and just invite random people? i don't think i'd like just anyone turning up... but this is something some friends and myself would be interested in doing.

nah, it says that you use the website to make the invites and send them out (via email I assume). they ask you if you are willing to invite at least 10 people. it's a house party not a free for all one
#5 jelli on 03 Sep 2009 - 08:54
Applied, can't wait to host a Windows 7 House Party, hope there is an option in Facebook for it.

See my post below. It is not a Microsoft site. You can take my tinfoil hat, stuff it, and see if the reflection shines light where light isnt suppose to reach

It is not a microsoft site, but in the terms you agree, you agree that microsoft is getting the rights / data

I signed up but one of the terms is "The majority of parties will be held within the United States."

So why even allow other countries to sign up then??
#18 +Pajter on 03 Sep 2009 - 12:03
I hate country-specific contests.
#19 dtomilson on 03 Sep 2009 - 12:15
I live in Canada but hope to receive the loot! Live in a good area code with fiber.. they probably want the nerds with the tools at hand to throw a sick party! I wasn't sure how they would feel about spirits and other substances so I wasn't sure about the whole press thing..

#20.1 Tekkerson on 03 Sep 2009 - 19:59
I heard a suggestion from someone that as long as you have alcohol nobody cares what the party is about! haha
#21 texasghost on 03 Sep 2009 - 12:25
Ok...these 4 guys sitting at a table in my opinion does not constitute a quote "Party".

I mean...geez...I can get 4 people from work to sit at a table with me and have a picture taken and there ya go...instant party.

Does inviting friends round and getting wasted with Windows 7 on a computer in the same room count?

LOL, indeed, but it's free publicity for Microsoft. Outsourcing ad agencies, you know. A copy of Windows 7 in return. Very cheap for MS.

If your REALLY bored, you could stage everything. Its not like a microsoft rep will be coming to your house.

From what I can see, there is not one mention of MICROSOFT anywhere, it even says SPONSERED BY HouseParty.

what I had to 'agree with' at the end was giving my life to microsoft, and not to houseparty. something like "microsoft will OWN each and every thing you submit about this party"
#25.2 roadwarrior on 04 Sep 2009 - 12:21
If you go to the list of upcoming parties, the Windows 7 party is listed as being sponsored by Microsoft.
