Microsoft's Security Bulletin for September contains five critical bulletins for release on Tuesday to block Remote Code Execution vulnerabilities in Windows operating systems. The five patches are scheduled for release on September 8, 2009.

All five bulletins have been rated as "Critical", Microsoft's highest rating for vulnerabilities. These critical updates are to prevent exploitation of Windows operating system and prevent holes used by Internet worms to attack users without user interaction. These updates only affect Microsoft Windows operating systems and not any other software.

The following Windows operating systems are affected:
  • Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 & 3 *
  • Windows Vista Service Pack 1 & 2 *
  • Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 & Itanium-based Systems *
  • Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 & Itanium-based Systems *
* Both 32bit and 64bit architecture

No updates have yet been announced of Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system, scheduled to release in retail stores on October 22, 2009.

Microsoft will also update the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for September. Some of these updates require a restart of your computer.

I'm guessing any Win7 updates will be released when it releases at retail, since only a very small percentage of people currently have it running.

Perhaps, or they might even be quietly released along with the others. Sense it isn't officially released they don't really have to talk about its updates yet. MS knows people are running Windows 7 and the last thing they want is to start the release with a black eye because a virus went around. I'm guessing you will see updates, but I'm not betting any money on that.

W7 Owners will still receive updates until Oct 22nd, but yes, perhaps they will just not mention them.

I believe we are already running these patches, I need to check into the kb articles to make sure we are getting updates.

I think the updates are unannounced

Yeah, when I launch windows update it says there are no updates. I know for a fact that I am getting updates cause I just installed Office 2007 and it pushed all the updates to my rig.

Looks like it's going to be a busy Exploit Wednesday.

I was thinking about that. No updates for windows 7. Maybe MS has gotten this OS right but then I came to my senses and have to agree with Xaero67. I know a lot of people who are running the RTM and would hate to think we are been left out in the cold.

I like these sorts of posts on Neowin... Much more useful than some of the nonsense...

These patches will have been in development for some time. It's possible that Windows 7 was developed with them in mind and does not require an update.

already privately released like 20+ hotfixes for windows 7
#6.2 texasghost on 06 Sep 2009 - 20:04
Yeah..there were something like 8 or 9 hotfixes for Windows 7 just in July alone and something like 5 hotfixes before it was even RTM'd.

I have a feeling you will see a Service Pack for Windows 7 already up and ready by the time Office 2010 is RTM'd.
