Ten new details about the Apple Tablet have surfaced on the Internet, stating they are from a "trusted source". The leaked information provides a look into what consumers could see in 2010 from Apple. If the information is accurate, we will see a 10" iPod Touch like tablet device.

According to iLounge.com, the list of ten items indicates that the Apple tablet device, iPad as they call it, will be very similar to a giant 10" iPod touch. The device runs the same operating system as the iPhone and iPod touch, coming in two variations, one with 3G capabilities and one without. The tablet is said to have a higher resolution, expected to be five to six times larger than that of the iPhone and iPod touch.

The device is intended for media purposes, web surfing, gaming, applications and reading. The tablet isn't meant to compete with netbooks or laptops, but be used as a portable media device. The source of the information claims Apple will announce the device details on or before January 19, 2010. The estimated release date is May or June, around the same time Apple released their previous iPhone line ups.

Heh, I can give you a few reasons as to why that isn't real. Firstly, it's got an iPod app as well as both the Music/Video iPod touch apps (defeating the purpose). The icons to the right aren't aligned well, either. Also, I notice there's a Phone app on it… good luck to anybody making a phone call with that thing D:

Sure, you could go into all that, or you could note that the picture's filename is imaginary-itablet.jpg.

You mean 6, three on the top.

Ha! And the literate in the crowd will get this reason: the image in the source has the following credit: "Photo: Illustration of an imaginary Apple Tablet (vernhart/Flickr)."

Also the simple fact that the screen is a lot bigger than 10 inches, or else that guy is tiny.
#1.11 ajua on 30 Sep 2009 - 06:41
Hopefully its fake. That thing looks horrible lol

I'm not sure if Apple will make a "big" iPhone for a tablet. That will make them compete against themselves. I see no point if there isn't an OSX-run computer.

how so?
#3 Mav Phoenix on 30 Sep 2009 - 02:24
No physical keyboard and likely much more money than netbooks...I can see why they wouldn't compete with them. j/k

Well, that's great. Apple finally thinks about making a device I would actually buy, and then cripples it by not putting a real OS on it, probably due to it not having the hardware to smoothly run a real OS.
#4.1 joemailey on 30 Sep 2009 - 09:51
Got to agree there mate. I was hoping it run a proper osx OS. Rather than iPhone/iPod OS.
So I could install real programs.
#5 Slacker on 30 Sep 2009 - 02:42
ya, I still hope that it still has full OS X on it.
(1 reply) #6 simon360 on 30 Sep 2009 - 03:02
I don't think it should have a *full* OS X, but it shouldn't have the iPhone OS either.

It should be like the Courier concepts, really. Something in between.
#6.1 m.keeley on 30 Sep 2009 - 04:59
Unlikely they're going to create yet another OS.
#7 SirDoan on 30 Sep 2009 - 03:14
pretty cool.

This will be a deathblow to Linux tablets everywhere as it will grab the "not Microsoft" crowd and hold them by the balls with a great product. Well, I expect it to be great.

I was excited about the rumors of an apple tablet, but same OS as iphone? Fail.

Why not the same OS? iPhone runs on OSX doesn't it? Nobody said same interface, just same OS.

However OS X on the iPhone is a stripped down version and not binary compatible with the Mac version of OS X for running applications.

So all the Mac users that were dreaming of finally using a nice tablet running Photoshop and drawing on the screen, will once again have to go buy a TabletPC and run the Windows version of Photoshop.

Which is what graphic designers in the Windows world have been doing for over 7 years now. Windows TabletPC + Graphic design = awesome experience, especially when using natural media painting software like Corel Painter.

#10 a51Mot on 30 Sep 2009 - 04:53
This is a natural evolution of the iPhone.
Apple underestimated the iPhone in terms of games and media and are now introducing an iPhone like device with a more suitable screen for games and media..
I can't wait...
#11 neoxphuse on 30 Sep 2009 - 05:15
I don't think this is the way people want to go. Hey guys, let's pull out this huge ass 10" iPad out of my pocket.

I'd rather go with a courier. Man I can't wait for that to come out.
#12 Trong on 30 Sep 2009 - 05:50
So they're copy+pasting the iPod Touch into a giant screen? Sounds revolutionary.
(1 reply) #13 M_Lyons10 on 30 Sep 2009 - 06:07
Hm... Well, I guess we'll see. I'm curious about this. There are too many rumors for nothing to be going on. I do think they'll have to do more than make the iPhone bigger though...
#13.1 cakesy on 30 Sep 2009 - 22:13
If they were just going to make the iphone bigger, they would have released it months ago. This is not Microsoft who take a few generations to release something decent (Windows, Office, Zune, Xbox, SS), well not any more. Apple spend a lot of time getting it right, before they release a new product.

Wow, how innovative, a UMPC several years after they were introduced by several other companies.

Here is a tip for people considering this, look instead at a flip screen touch netbook running Windows7 or a new generation UMPC running Windows7 that is a slate tablet design.

Then you have a full media player and a full freaking computer and can run ANY of your applications, even games like WoW, not just cute iPhone Games that are glorified games from the 90s era of gaming.

PS The touch netbooks and smaller slate tables are not 'rumors', these device already exist and are awaiting the Win7 release date to debut.

Yes, but you don't want a full OS, what don't you understand about that? You want something a lot simple. Even on Microsofts copycat table (oh sorry, it does have 2 screens, it is completely different), they use special software to get it all going.

W7 is a hog, maybe not as much as Vista, but not as good as XP, and you don't see XP on any phones, do you. Not even these days, when a lot of smartphones are faster than the XP launch computers.

Windows XP, Vista, & 7 do not run on ARM architecture. That's why you don't see them on smartphones. However, Microsoft has Windows CE that runs on smartphones and ARM-based embedded systems.

Could be worse. They could be running that bloated Linux OS. Man that thing is slow. It gets bigger and bigger every year. Linus hates it.
