Sony's PlayStation 3 games console has outsold the Nintendo Wii for the first time on a monthly basis in Japan, with 309,939 PlayStation's sold in September. The Wii ranked fourth, behind both company's handheld offerings, with the console selling just 61,691 units in September.According to Bloomberg, Nintendo's DS Lite and DSi handheld consoles came a close second to the PlayStation 3, selling a combined 297,060 units. Sony's PSP finished ranked third, selling just 83,887 units, according to market researcher Enterbrain Inc.
Sony cut the price of the PlayStation 3 in Japan to 29,980 yen ($335) at the start of September, when it introduced the PlayStation 3 Slim, which is one-third the size of the original. The new model and lower price saw the Tokyo-based company's console sell more than 1 million units worldwide in three weeks. Sony also announced last month that it will lower the price of the PSP in Japan to 16,800 yen, from October onwards.
Microsoft also offered a price cut for its Xbox 360 console, cutting the most expensive model to 29,800 yen in Japan, while Nintendo was the last of the three console makers to announce a price cut. From October on the motion-sensing console will be available for just 20,000 yen.
That's to be expected. The holiday season is approaching fast and FFXIII will be out Dec. 17th. That will definitely move some units.
Normally I would agree with you, I had planned on buying a PS3 myself for a couple of games, FFXIII being one of them. However now that FXIII is gonna be on XBOX360 as well I'll just wait a few more months for it on the XBOX rather then spend $300 to play it and 2 other games.
maybe when your xbox fails you can replace it with a ps3
The 360 is only getting one of the 2 FFXII's being released. FF vs. FFXII is still exclusive to the ps3, and FFXIII Agito is exclusive to the psp

FFXIII VS Is exclusive to PS3 and FFXIII is for both 360 and PS3.
Another small pop in PS3 sales with the release of FF13 is expected, yeah, but then if sales do nothing but head south yet again, it doesn't help much. Sony's running outta big name AAA games to help it at this rate.

Yeah, shows how much you know about Japanese market. MGS4 big mover? Yes. The rest? No. If we speak of nationalism, Japan certainly ranks high. There is a reason why 360 barely scratched the market, and it is certainly not only due to it breaking down thats for sure.
