Google Street View goes live for Canadians

Many Canadians can now see their homes, streets, points of interest and landmarks on Google Street View. The street level view of the top major cities in Canada has finally gone live, after months of Google cars and cameras roaming the streets, adding the same feature Americans have on Google Maps.

The added street view perspective gives Canadians a detailed image view of the largest cities in Canada, allowing users to take a virtual 360 degree tour of the city. The online virtual tour of cities is available for free on Google Maps, and can be activated by clicking on the icon of the little yellow man when the street preview is available.

Google Street View automatically blurs faces and license plates to protect peoples identity and privacy.

Google only mapped five of the largest provinces in Canada including, Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec, highlighting selected cities to be covered on Google Maps. Canada now joins some of the other countries featured on Google Maps including United States, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, France, and Japan.

I wish the UK Street View would get updated. Google's camera car came up our street about five months ago we're still not on it. There are still only a few cities on there at the moment.

Ditto. I saw one coming up my road and managed to strike a stupid pose (was walking to the chip shop!) so hopefully I'm immortalized on Streetview looking like an idiot!

This was at least a year ago now too... wondering where the update is!

Seriously the amount of crap that our UK based media threw at Google i wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't be arsed to finish off the UK.

From what i've seen is they have taken several pics of the area I live in over a span of a couple of days, and they have puzzled together only the pics with the fewest people & vehicles, it's funny cause in one photo you see a Blue PT cruiser in front of the camera, then move up the street a little and the car is gone, also I saw the Google camera mobile once when I was in my truck at an intersection, I was hoping my truck would be immortalized in Google stret view, when I went to look at the intersection on street view there are almost no cars in the picture, so my truck isn't in it, same as my house, they must've come by when my truck wasn't in my driveway, also the pics were taken during election time as i see election signs on peoples lawns, but on some pics there are no signs, but I remember there was one block that lamost every house had some kind of election lawn sign, but in google view the lawns are bare. So the Streetview is not composed of constant view of the camera going down the street just once, it must've gone a couple of times and then they must pick and choose which of the pics make it to the web and piece them altogether.

It'd be nice if they had more cities available, but of course they're going to start with mostly the big cities. I'm sure the rest will be done later.

Well Nova Scotia isn't the 5th largest province but ok. Manitoba is certainly bigger.

Nice that Google Street View has finally arrived. I remember when it first came years ago and hoping for it to come to Canada, just because it's cool mostly.
