The Beatles are finally available in digital form. However, you need to shell out $279.99 for it. Granted, it comes in an apple-shaped USB stick, both in FLAC and MP3 formats. It seems they are all-together shunning the iTunes music store.

Apple Corps and EMI Music have announced the worldwide release a limited edition of only 30,000 Stereo USB devices. What do you get for that? The same thing the band and EMI Music Group are already selling for $219: All of the band's music, in a remastered stereo mix — the same just released in a CD set. For all those die-hard fans paying extra yet, you get the same tunes bundled up in a single USB stick. Like so:

On the device there is a specially designed Flash interface that has been installed, and the 16GB USB's audio and visual contents will be provided in FLAC 44.1 Khz 24 bit and MP3 320 Kbps formats, fully compatible with PC and Mac. This it also includes the 13 mini-documentaries about the studio albums. To be fair, it's impossible to get such high-quality audio on the free YouTube videos. It's quite an imposition to ask of the fans to plunk down more than $200 (£200 in the UK) for it, though.

The Apple shaped USB-stick will be available on December 7th (December 8th in North America), pre-orders are available at The Beatles store.

imagine the vision of the future , back in the 60's .... like, flying cars, space travel, rayguns, robots , stuff like that.... a technologically advanced object shaped like the logo of a corporate entity wouldnt be that far off

That's hilarious. I guess Steve Jobs stole it from The Beatles and then turned around and accused others of stealing from them. Ha!

ive had them in 320kbs mp3's for years, amazing what you can do when you rip all the cd's on to computer

Though they wont be remastered and by the sound of it, they will be in mono.

Do you have a time machine then?
The re-masters were only released on CD on the 9th September 2009. (http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/04/07/the-beatles-remastered-albums-due-september-9-2009/)

Your 'years old' mp3s will just be the old cd's with bodged stereo mixes if that.

You know that not every album was mono, right? In fact, not even most albums by them were mono.

FLAC 44.1 Khz 24 bit - finally you'll discover the true Beatles in those added 8 bits.
#4.1 carmatic on 05 Nov 2009 - 08:31
they might as well have given it in .wav format, flac doesnt compress 24bit data very well...

? FLAC is lossless codex (does not lose audio quality)

Yep nothing new here I ripped all my CD's years ago...stuff re-buying song's I already have.
(1 reply) #6 ThaCrip on 04 Nov 2009 - 10:39
well at least someone finally put it in FLAC format, but then again that price sure as hell aint appealing lol

because $219.99 vs $279.99. so for those who are going to get it. makes more sense to just get the CD's and rip to .FLAC yourself.
#6.1 carmatic on 05 Nov 2009 - 08:34
cd's dont come in 24-bit format

Wow. This is something new. But if you are a real Beatles fan then why not. It is limited edition after all. But the price is killer.

But if you have a car stereo that can read flash drives this thing is ideal for Beatles Fans...

It's a bit silly even if you are a 'real' Beatles fan (rather than all those fake Beatles fans)

Sound and Vision did a direct A B comparison between the CDs released 20 years ago and the brand new ones. There was not a huge difference in the sound and in some instances they liked the older ones better!
#8.1 +Napalm Frog on 04 Nov 2009 - 13:23
I personally like the new ones better. I think the most obvious difference is the warmer low end. Ringo's kick drum, and McCartney's bass lines are so damned nice feeling, I can't stop listening to the Beatles now. The rest of the audio just sounds a bit "cleaner", not "better". So I guess it depends on what one's taste in audio is. Then again, I have the stereo set for both the 1987 and 2009 re-masters. I've heard the 1987 mono re-masters, but not the 2009 ones yet, so can't discuss that.

I know Piracy is wrong. It was only an idea.

Do you actually believe people believe piracy is correct, or maybe they just don't care?

The Beatles' music finally available in MP3

The finally world sound like a sarcasm.
#10.1 NPGMBR on 04 Nov 2009 - 14:41
Hmmmm..........I don't have a single song in my 5700 track collection that is performed by the Beatles. It seems like there is always a lot of interest in the Beatles but I've never been a fan. Just never cared. Am I a loner or are the Beatles overated or are there others just as uninterested as I am but the Beatles are great?

I've never had any real interest either. I'm not saying their music was revolutionary, just that it has never really interested me musically.

kinda like how Lucas prevent StarWars being on dvd for so long, since he wasn't sure the format was going to stick / stay around?

Am I the only one who is SICK of the beatles?
I remember as a kid in the 60's, I was so sick of listening them coming from my older sisters room, that to this day, I still don't own ANYTHING the beatles or any of their members ever released. If they never played another beatles song on the radio, tv, satellite radio, it would be too soon.

I wouldn't go quite that far, but am I the only one SICK of the owner of much of the Beatle's music, namely Michael Jackson?

I'm way more sick of hearing about that guy than the Beatles. At least some of them are still alive.

I have never liked them so much. I do think they were revolutionary in the music show business.

I can hear songs from them anywhere but I don't have any songs in my music library.

Have you ever listened to the Beatles? I had a similar attitude as you when I was 12. But when I actually sat down and listened to thh Beatles, I discovered that they are more relevant today than they have ever been.

Uh, yeah. You can go back to your toys now.

The Beatles are still better than 90% of the crap that gets played on the radio these days.

it is a shame the price point isn't closer to ~$100. They have kind of priced themselves out of the market. If they would go into mass production they would make a killing this holiday season.
#14.1 Doli on 04 Nov 2009 - 16:40
Well if they did that then some people who bought the CD set will feel burned if they paid over $200 and the flac/mp3 verison with appple USB holder is near $100.

The Beatles are fantastic, but I could purchase their most popular albums (excluding all the rare ones of course) for far less than this. I wouldn't know what to do with another USB pen, either!

They should totally take the plunge onto iTunes. I'd pay more for the convenience.
