Google apps getting the wave treatment

Earlier this week, Engadget received a set of images from an anonymous insider at Google showing a quick insight into the potential future of Google's web applications - with a hint of wave. It looks very much like a work in progress, but a change such as this is needed.

The pictures show a unified UI across all Google applications - including Google search, GMail and Google Contacts - which is a very similar UI to Google Wave - which is more than welcome. Engadget was told that "the goal is to provide a consistent experience throughout all Google Apps and blur the line between the browser and the website (e.g. drag and drop, right-click, etc.)."

Engadget also reported that they could not confirm the images authenticity, but the tipster did show real insider knowledge of Google, so these images should be the real deal. If so, it looks like the Google interface will finally be bought up to date, as it hasn't really been updated since it's launch on April 1, 2004.

the screen captures are useless - you can't see anything in them. Is the April 1 date a hint about the validity of this story?

Nah, IIRC, Gmail was actually released on April Fools' Day.

Personally I like gmails current simplistic UI.

About the only thing I can tell from those images is they've added more colors and drop shadows to their already existing theme.

I wish they would add a reading pane option for Gmail.

This looks like an excellent prospect... the power of Wave across all of Google's apps could be a real differentiator.

Post higher res screenshots, please! That Chrome window looks a little odd... is it from Linux maybe?

Looks like an XP Chrome window to me. Linux Chromium has square buttons at the top.

Does this mean all Google apps go back to beta?
#6.1 Guol on 11 Nov 2009 - 09:53
Half of them are still in beta, haha
#6.2 paokun on 11 Nov 2009 - 10:12
I hope so! This way I'll avoid having to check for new beta versions myself For whatever application I use in my pc, I absolutely need to try out the beta!

looks photoshopped... heh... but we'll see, i do like it though. I just feel these aren't real.

I'd like to see a larger version of that last picture... because that would affect the most people. I like this though. Consistency is good.

Oh wait. Engadget has the larger pics. Take a look there if you want to see them.
