Sky has taken the wraps off its Mobile TV app for iPhone today.Available to UK subscribers, the iPhone application itself is free but a £6 per month subscription is required to stream content. The Sky Mobile TV app allows you to watch Sky Sports 1,2 and 3 as well as Sky Sports News, Sky Sports Extra, Sky News, At The Races and ESPN. However, the Sky Mobile TV application only works on Wi-Fi.
Customers on the O2 network in the UK can benefit from a 3 month free offer in combination with Sky. O2 has the full details but it's limited to the first 150,000 customers.
"In less than a year we've already seen millions of downloads of Sky's various iPhone apps," said David Gibbs, the general manager for mobile at Sky. "Now, by launching our new Sky Mobile TV app, we are able to combine the demand for great live TV on the move with the quality of experience offered through the iPhone and iTouch."
If you are not a Sky subscriber you will be able to purchase Sky Mobile TV for the monthly charge. Sky Mobile TV is already available, for £5 a month, on the 3G networks of Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile.
Sky is also expected to release a Windows Media Center application for Windows 7 shortly, Neowin got an exclusive hands on late last month.
It should be free to those with multi-room.

Sorry thought for moment they are a business.
Well they're not charging extra for Sky Player on your web browser or your Xbox 360, so why isn't this free?
Alot of subscribers (most.. perhaps?) have more than one box and therefore have multi-room already. To those people, in real terms the Sky Player services are free.
I think the point is, rather than splitting hairs, that the application that allows access to the services on the Xbox 360 and MCE is free. To access any Sky services you need a subscription, given that they hand out most of their set top boxes for free, the applications on the aforementioned platforms are free... I personally believe the app should be free on the iPhone.
I'd argue that most wouldn't have multi-room and more than 1 box. The vast majority of subscribers would just about be on Sky+ let alone have another box.
I only know one person that has Sky Multiroom.
They should just treat some of their higher paying customers(like myself) a little better, instead of trying to charge for everything possible.
I think it should be free for those with multi-room, and sports package(until they add more channels), for other customers they should charge.

Just looked on the app store and tried the site on my iphone but says it needs flash. How you guys watching this on your phones?

This is getting ridiculous. You're not allowed to do anything on 3G. The whole point of these features is to be able to use them anywhere, yet they put these restrictions on them. "You can watch TV on your phone, but only when you're at home" If I'm on Wi-Fi I'm probably going to be at home where I can just watch my TV anyway. It's the same with BBC iPlayer, if I'm on a wireless network I'll just go on the computer.
The other networks don't seem to have this "problem". I watched some of the Chelsea - United game on my friends phone on Sunday whilst we were in his car (obviously he was driving, not watching). If Vodafone can do it, why can't O2?
As for iPlayer, I'm sure Nokia phones allow you to watch programs over 3G.
Anyone want to buy an iPhone? I'm sick of being given these "features" and then told I can't use them
Really nice software, its like a really good version of a 'streaming site'.
I might get it to watch the football in future, £6 is alot cheaper than the Sky Sports Package and ESPN.
