Microsoft Office 2010 beta build leaks
Microsoft's highly anticipated Office 2010 beta suite has leaked this week on peer-to-peer file sharing networks.
The build, numbered version 14.0.4514.1009, is tagged with the "beta 2" naming. The leak reportedly requires keys to install but accepts Office 2010 Technical Preview keys. Michael Aulia of Craving Tech posted some screen shots and his initial impressions after Microsoft sent him the beta directly.
From the screen shots posted it's clear the UI has been refined in the Office 2010 beta and the program icons have been updated. It's widely expected that a public beta build of Office 2010 will be available next week. Microsoft has kept quiet on the reports but has hinted on the official Office twitter account "MS Office team has some exiting news to tell at PDC. This is a must attend event. Stay tuned!" and a follow up post hints at possible social networking features in Outlook, "would you like your inbox to talk to your social networks? Useful integration or distraction?". Stay tuned for all the PDC 2009 information as Neowin will be live in Los Angeles next week.

I think the icons are nice as well. It seems to be the new trend... adobe too. Kind similar to the old mac ms-office icons though (but looks much better).

I do like the icons, and yes, the letters are becoming the brand themselves.. just like Adobe's CS4 icons. OS X office 2004 icons dont fit because aqua is old now!

Unless I'm very mistaken, this has been available for quite a while now.
As in, more than a month at least.
Oh and

Can confirm that, I'm running this build and have seen the option to add such networks, they just haven't finished implementing the full functionality yet.
Edit for proof:
Had it before the Date Modified listed

That was actually the Technical Preview (if you've got it some weeks before). Check the icons (the easiest) that you have. If they're different than you got the Technical Preview
callummr - 13 November 2009 - 08:53
Pretty sure it's not the tech preview, have a look a the build number in the file name. New icons too, and I can post a screenshot of it running if you want.

There was also an another "beta 2" build under 4514.1007, which only came out about a week or two ago. I could be very possible MS simply changed the build numbers.

Technical preview is build 14.0.4006

I'm pretty sure it leaked a week ago too. Remember that post in the neowin forums that said "exclusive blablabla" and it seemed to be just news about the beta? I did some google work and found out that same post was on other forums, by the same person, and it turned out it had been uploaded somewhere. Most people were reporting that you needed a key to use it (and that technical preview keys were valid). So I guess that's why nobody bothered

Social networking in Outlook? that'd be pretty cool lol. Although it is a sad sign of how poor Microsoft Betas are these days that these things leak before testers even get to use them
