Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1 Build 2008.01.04

Media Player Classic is an extremely light-weight media player for Windows. It looks just like Windows Media Player 6.4, but has many additional extra features. MPC has, for instance, a built in DVD player with real-time zoom, support for AVI subtitles, QuickTime and RealVideo support (requires QT and/or Real player); built-in MPEG2/SVCD/DVD codec. It also supports SVCD/CVD selectable subtitles and lots more. The best part about Media Player Classic is the ability to modify the filters when playing your favorite video files.

I mean no offense when I say this, but I trust their site more than a random person who posts application news on Neowin.

I could also say "there's no "Final" on the release notes, Download file name/description and in the application." but hey maybe I am wrong...

lol, i understand you perfectly.

Some programs say BETA on it, while FINAL i've never seen any.

It's been a long time coming with this update. Does it incorporate all the "features and fixes" of MPC Homecinema edition?

EDIT: Seems, not, as Homecinema has a lot more features in the options. Although I may be wrong, just had a quick look, nothing in depth

I used to love this player but it hasn't exactly been a thriving project for the last few years. I thought it was dead actually, and I've already moved on. GOM Player is sweet.

You must have got it from some dodgy site, as the actual one is 100% virus and spyware free.

Edit: I just noticed you said you got it from a link on Neowin. no idea how it had a virus then!

Yes, Gabest, the original developer of MPC has stopped work on all his projects long ago; CLSID has now taken over updating it; he has also taken over updating of FFDShow, under the project name FFDShow Tryouts...
Guliverkli2 MPC updates by CLSID:

ffdshow tryouts by CLSID and others:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

MPC - Homecinema adds support for EVR. I think he uses the builds from CLSID.

No, you still need codecs. QuickTime, Real media, Divx, Xvid, etc. There are players that come with all the codecs they need but this isn't one of them. It is free and lightweight though.

Why would anyone use media player classic over VLC? VLC will play just about anything you throw at it.

ive used both
and MPC is way better

KMplayer > VLC

the interface its bad, the way it handle subtitle its horrible, have issues with MKV only good thing about it its that it works for linux and mac but for windows theres so many good alternatives

That's the problem with freeware, authors give up too easy. A little advice, don't start the damn project if you can't keep it up!.

MPC does everything it needs to do, simple, fast, and useful. What else does it need?!

I've seen so many posts querying the legalities of the http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=announce&f=12&id=11 Codec Packs, but that issue aside, with the codec pack installed, MPC has played almost anything I have thrown at it!

http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=announce&f=12&id=11 pack is crap comparing to FFDShow Tryouts. I highly suggest you switch over ;)

You won't regret it!
