Meet the Neowinian: Neowin joins Team Fortress 2

Meet the Neowinian

A fierce temper, a fascination with all things technology and a terrible plan to overtake Rappy’s post count cost the Neowinian much of his early childhood. Like a bat, the Neowinian does not appear to sleep, spending much of his time clicking away at a single button. Unplugging his router or spilling Mountain Dew all over his server will get you ripped limb from limb. Though he speaks using Internet slang, the Neowinian is not dumb, he’s not your buddy and you’re not his friend.

And now...

Coinciding with the recent release of Valve’s Team Fortress 2 on the Mac, Neowin has joined in the fun setting up the community's own official server sanctioned by Neobond himself! Hosted by Veteran EmuZombie, the server is currently located in Chicago, Illinois running the Amplifier mod.

With the Engineer class selected, players will have the option of choosing between a Dispenser and an Amplifier. With an Amplifier constructed, the building does not give off health and ammunition like a Dispenser, rather it causes all nearby teammates’ shots to be critical. The mod provides a fun twist and makes for an exciting game.

Neowin subscribers of any level also receive extra perks including:

  • Custom achievements
  • Auto balance immunity
  • End round immunity

Please see this thread for more information. (View restricted to current subscribers)

Players can access the official Neowin server by connecting to IP address and port: 8.9.16.185:27015. The server can also easily be found by setting the game to filter the tag 'Neowin'.

something is seriously wrong with your server. it is the only one that crashes my system. maybe the engineer update.. not sure

Just got on the server for a bit and played a few rnds. Had a good time. But, holy CRAP! I hardly recognized TF2. I hadn't played it in over 18months. So many new things.

It's your server thus entirely your choices, but I think in the long run people appreciate vanilla gameplay more than modded. If you must use mods, go for things like stats tracking and vote systems.

Just a thought. I don't really care at the end of the day as I have my own server.

so how do I get the subscriber benefits once I join the server?

Just send EmuZombie a PM with your request.

The server just got owned by some speed hacker named accabyarton. After we vote kicked him, he some how did some buffer overflow and kicked off like half the server.

This dude is getting everyone kicked off. :-/

Wasn't his name something like SSJ-Terminator?

Anyhow, the server needs cheating protection.

It was accabyarton before that, then he changed it to SSJ Terminator.jpg. And then something else after that.

Woot. Nice going.

It all sounds cool until you read the part about the crit mod. Then it makes you go: "ew, no thanks". Random crits are annoying enough, constant crits only make things suck. Especially for the offense, as crit spam would buff the defense to a stupid degree.

It's quite fun actually. I'd recommend giving it a go if you have some spare time.

And the down side to this, that if an engineer chooses to build this he loses his normal dispenser. That means no unlimited ammo, no healing...

Not to mention the amplifier model is nice and big and easy to destroy from a distance and at close range.

It does change the dynamics of game play yes, however game play is still very balanced. Since installing the mod, statistically blue attackers have been winning 60% of the time on attack/defend maps. (Including Dustbowl)

Kicked some ass before on the server...my ping was great and I had a good time.

I saw Mephistopheles, and I'm sure there were a few more of you guys that might have been on that I missed.

I was on-line for about 5 minutes (didn't have a lot of time on my hands) at 19:30 GMT there were a few people on-line

About time this pops up on the front page. And lol at the article, that was amazing.

Hopefully, the server's pop will go up with this. I, myself, didn't know about the server until recently.

Yeah I'll be joining in, downloading Team Fortress 2 as we speak. Hopefully people will use the proper usernames so I know who everyone is. lol

I wish I had money to buy this. I would love to play. Sadly never played it.

There have been offers where it's been around $1 several times

There were a couple of players on last night (European time).

Of course, the more players the merrier. Frag you on the Neowin TF2 server!

I added the server to my favorites yesterday, but no one was in it.

Hopefully this persuades some more people to join the server so we can get a good game in.
