MetroTwit for Windows 8 gets major update and Pro version

In June, the development team behind MetroTwit released version 1.0 for Windows 8 via the Windows Store. Now, with the new OS launching to the general public in less than two weeks, the team behind MetroTwit has launched a major new update for Windows 8, including a "Pro" version.

The new version contains a number of additional features, including Twitter streaming and lists support, inline media previews, geolocation support and more. Of course, the team has also fixed a number of the bugs that have cropped up since the launch of MetroTwit 1.0.

In addition to the free version, users have the option to purchase the Pro version for $4.99. This option eliminates ads, while offering support for multiple accounts. The Pro version may also add a number of other features in the future that won't be a part of the free MetroTwit app.

People who have purchased MetroTwit Plus, the paid version of the Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 client, will be able to get MetroTwit Pro for Windows 8 for free. The team states, "Simply copy and paste the MetroTwit Plus email code into the General Settings screen from the Settings charm to validate the upgrade."

I'm using the desktop version (pro) on Windows 8 because I don't want to have to keep switching between desktop and MetroTwit. Works for me.

I'm still trying to figure out why we need any twitter apps, so I'm not ready to tackle why I should pay $5 for one.

You don't understand why we need twitter apps? :-|

In general, I don't even get the point of Twitter. Everybody uses Facebook for the same thing. That doesn't mean I don't have a Twitter account, however. The plugin built into Trillian and the built-in functionality on my Windows Phone are more than sufficient. Why there are so many standalone apps out there that have no functionality beyond Twitter boggles me. And, again, I don't understand why anybody would want to pay for one. Developing one seems a waste of time and resources.

I used Twitter for just status stuff and facebook for pictures to share with friends but as for apps, destroy twitter does me well

Between this and Tweetro (and of course the normal MetroTwit) Windows finally has a some good Twitter apps, figure Windows 8 would help in that area.

I'm still waiting for one to add Tweetmarker support though, the clients themselves are nice but as long as they can't sync with my other clients they are useless to me.

I am waiting on MetroTwit Enterprise, Ultimate and Home Basic editions. Gosh, its twitter, why there needs to be a "Pro" version for something you are typing 140 characters for?

It's the business model of future - the mighty "app store". I figure it's way better than wretched ads, but those pretty much everyone ignores, many hate and certain people block altogether. At least I'm paying money instead of being sold.

yeah I wondered that, I mean the features they offer you can find elsewhere but of course not as pretty

It's mostly good, but sometimes It stops refreshing on me. I have to close it and re-open it.

Plus, it needs a live tile.

Twitter needs to hire these guys, because this app is fantastic. Better than most apps Twitter releases itself, actually.

Well, yea, true, but that goes for just about every third part twitter client developed...

Twitter bought the "Tweetdeck" guys... I doubt they will be buying any more clients ;-) Tweetdeck was quite nice, I think that would be lovely if they released a Windows 8 version

I've tried really hard to like twitter but it just seems to be full of junk, ads and the site is sluggish all the time.

Thinking i'll go to app.net

twitter is good if you follow the right people and groups. I am a huge hockey fan and love twitter during the off season(unfortunatley having an extended offseason right now), season and free agent and trade deadline periods. Its great for following your favorite sports teams and writers for your favorite sport
