Microsoft: 3 million downloads of Windows 8 dev preview to date

Microsoft has announced today that there have been over 3 million downloads of the Windows 8 Developers preview. The news is surely not surprising to many as Microsoft's Windows platform is the most popular desktop OS in the World.

Windows 8 developer preview was launched in September and has already begun spreading to developers, enthusiasts and general users who are desperate to get their hands on the latest operating system from Microsoft. The new operating system brings a fresh new interface, a bunch of new features, greater performance for desktops and a brand new interface for tablet users called Metro.

The Metro interface will give tablet users a larger interface for touch screens, with a tile based operating system, similar to Windows Phone 7. Microsoft has spent the greater part of the last year to really speed up development of Windows 8 and it definitely shows off that the company is still innovating and still manages to keep Windows enthusiasts at the edge of their seats.

There have been rumors that we will see a Windows 8 beta in the near future. Current rumors suggest either a late January or February release for a public beta.

Keep in mind that you can use Windows 8 as you did Windows 7 except for a slightly faster GUI, smaller memory footprint, and faster boot.

and for everyone buying a netbook or tablet RIGHT NOW that runs win7 in hopes of running win8 later when it comes out, i need to clarify that make sure of one specification. The resolution needs to be ATLEAST 1366x768 or more to run Metro Apps with snap feature.. So make sure you dont buy those 1200 something tablets or netbooks.

What's the best tablet available now to run Windows 8 on?

Best... probably Samsung. Cheapest... probably Acer w500 (can be had for about 350 on Cheetahdeals). I am writing this on the Acer and I love using it actually.

Nah, I think news should tell the truth.

Because it wasn't intended for end-users. DEVELOPER preview = For developers to make apps.

I wasn't saying it for me. I was saying for other people. Most of the people who did download the Developer Preview, never understood that it was an alpha.

"The new operating system brings (...) and a brand new interface for tablet users called Metro"

(i wish it was like that) Ha, stirring words, i won't point out how.
