Microsoft and Bungie Studios to Evolve Relationship

Microsoft Corp. today announced a plan for Bungie Studios, the developers of the "Halo®" franchise, to embark on a path to become an independent company. Microsoft will retain an equity interest in Bungie, at the same time continuing its long-standing publishing agreement between Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie for the Microsoft-owned "Halo" intellectual property as well as other future properties developed by Bungie.

The critically acclaimed Xbox 360®-exclusive "Halo 3" achieved $300 million in global sales in its first week. Released on Tuesday, Sept. 25, "Halo 3" is the fastest-selling video game ever and already one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.

That's it Microsoft - just take their games and then leave 'em

Makes me wonder why they did it, after all, Halo is bringing in a hell of a lot of cash for Microsoft. And why's Halo 3 such a good game? It's anticipation more than anything that made it successful.

Looks like MS is done with Bungie now that the Halo trilogy is complete.

After all, the reason they bought Bungie to launch the XBOX with "Halo" exclusive.

Why? Halo 3 and all the follow on Halo titles will continue to be Xbox exclusives.

Also, Microsoft own Bungie. They would not have agreed to let Bungie go unless there were some serious plus points for them.

I don't think Bungie will be working on any more Halo titles, otherwise they would not have split off like this. Microsoft owns the franchise and will likely outsource it to some other studio.
