Microsoft announces 'Mac to Surface Book' campaign to help Apple users jump ship

Microsoft is making it easier for Mac owners to switch to the Surface Book, its first laptop. The company is running a “Mac to Surface Book” campaign wherein it is offering various guides to assist users currently using a Mac computer to seamlessly transfer their files, contacts, and other data to the all-new Surface Book.

As Microsoft explains:

“Computers, and the memories you keep within them, are incredibly personal. We know moving these memories from one platform to another can be nerve-racking and learning new software can seem daunting. We want to make the transition as easy as possible. If you currently have a Mac and have questions about switching to Microsoft Surface Book and Windows 10, we designed this site to help get you started.”

In the first guide, titled "Getting started with Windows 10 on Surface Book," Microsoft details how a user account and the Windows Store work. The company has also explained various aspects of the Windows 10 user interface, introducing the Start menu; gestures support on the trackpad; and how one can make the best use of the Surface Pen.

In the following guides, the company goes through some handy keyboard shortcuts, shows where the installed programs are listed, and provides assistance with other basic-but-essential tasks, such as how to access emails, contacts, and calendar. It also offers help to users with moving their photo, music and movie libraries to the Surface Book, and explains what happens with their iTunes purchases.
