Microsoft cuts £200 off Surface Pro 3 in UK, gives extra £50 Store voucher with Core i7 models

As with its Band wearable device, Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 tablet will soon be replaced by a new device, which is widely expected to be announced next month. In preparation for the arrival of its successor, the company has been running increasingly frequent promotional discounts on the Pro 3, the latest of which is now available in the UK.

Since last month, discounts have been available on all Surface Pro 3 models in the UK via the Microsoft Store, with the exception of the entry-level Intel Core i3 / 64GB version:

  • Intel Core i3 / 64GB / 4GB RAM | £639 - no change
  • Intel Core i5 / 128GB / 4GB RAM | was £849 | now £769 (£80 off)
  • Intel Core i5 / 256GB / 8GB RAM | was £1079 | now £979 (£100 off)
  • Intel Core i7 / 256GB / 8GB RAM | was £1299 | now £1179 (£120 off)
  • Intel Core i7 / 512GB / 8GB RAM | was £1549 | now £1349 (£200 off)

But the company is now going further, offering an additional £50 voucher for the Microsoft Store to those purchasing either of the two Surface Pro 3 models that come with an Intel Core i7 processor.

However, the small print for this latest offer, partially reproduced below, reveals a small but significant catch:

***Offer valid from 19 August 2015 to 23:59 GMT on 05 October 2015. Offer is available while supplies last. Offer valid with purchase of Surface Pro 3 i7 devices. Customer must spend on a future purchase of aggregate amount, in a single transaction, of over £100 from Microsoft online store in the United Kingdom to use the Store Voucher. The Voucher is not valid on Xbox Live, Xbox Gift Cards and Windows Store Gift Cards. Available in Microsoft online store in the United Kingdom only.

As Microsoft explains, you won't simply be able to use the £50 voucher to buy a £49.99 mouse at the Microsoft Store - you'll have to ensure that your purchase totals at least £100 to be able to use that £50 credit.

Still, bearing in mind that the Pro 3 doesn't come with a keyboard, you might want to put that credit towards the £109.99 cost of the Type Cover - but you'll have to make that purchase separately once you've received the voucher.

One final nugget of noteworthy info: Microsoft UK has now caught up with its US retail team in offering the Surface Pro 3 with Windows 10 pre-installed.
