Microsoft: Halo Reach "biggest game of 2010"

With less than 24 hours to go before the world premiere of Halo Reach, Aaron Greenberg has gone on the record declaring already that Halo Reach "will be the biggest game of 2010".

Considering the anticipation for some of next year's upcoming titles, with games like Final Fantasy XIII and Gran Turismo 5 finally making their debut, the statement's not one to be taken lightly. Despite the fierce competition though, Greenberg remains confident. "Is [Gran Turismo 5] launching next year? I've seen years and years of minigames, but I haven't seen that the game is done."

Considering what little we know about Halo Reach right now, it's hard to agree with what he's saying. What we do know, however, is that it's being developed by Bungie and that it's a prequel to the original Halo. Before, the fact that it's a Halo game alone would secure it GOTY-status, but with Halo 3: ODST and Halo Wars receiving less-than-stellar reviews, it might be time for Microsoft to admit that Halo isn't the perfect franchise it seems to think it is.

For all of u cry babies about how Halo is dead and that you will never play it or buy Halo Reach, You all are Lying to yourselves!!!! For One, you all are still talking about it! Two it still has a huge fan base! three all of you have friends that love Halo and once u see them play it, so will you! Four, Great Story Line.......For instance on the First Halo you KNOW Master Cheif is the last Spartan left...........Think about it, So you know in Halo Reach these Spartans are going to Die.......great Story.........! Five, It's Halo, what can i say im a die hard fan......

Nope, definitely not lying to myself. I don't plan on buying any Halo games unless they come out on PC. Even then, I'd have to think about it. I don't play First Person Shooters with a gamepad, sorry. I'd rather buy the newest Final Fantasy on a PS3 before I played that on the 360 (and I don't plan on doing that either without having a job). I liked Halo 1, it was pretty cool. I don't think that's new news. Halo 2 was okay, gameplay changed some, but it was still pretty good. After that, I stopped caring. Same old stuff and then $60 for ODST... hardly worth that.

Seeing as how you and me don't know anything about it, I can't say much, but if it's the same old thing then PASS. I'm sure a good Valve game will be out around the same time anyway... or No More Heroes 2, or something.

mass effect 2 ?

Halo, and Mass Effects 2 would be contender for "biggest XBOX game of 2010", not "biggest GAME of 2010".

Something huge and mutli-console would be the "biggest GAME of 2010" like COD-MW2.

they have cocked up on this one.. they should have just continued the story line and released halo 4.. not all this sub junk branded under halo... its naff

Define "biggest". It will definitely have the most hype for any game next year, but I don't think it will out sell everything.

Personally, I'm getting sick of these "other" Halo games. I love the Halo universe and all, but I really just want to follow Master Chief's story, and not all this peripheral BS. If they have to make another Halo game, just make a proper Halo 4 already.

Disagree, games like MW2 aka a "huge" game there is huge demand and it's Cross Platform, would be the "biggest" game in 2010.
Final Fantasy has a chance for this, since it's now cross platform. GT5 hour ever, may be big, but not biggest game either.

Do you want to make a game for only a possible 34.53 Million Console, 28.35 Million Console's, or a possible 62.88 million consoles.

Halo Wars and ODST did not do poorly because it was a weak franchise, it's the opposite, the franchise is losing credibility because those were not the greatest titles. They should have not even bothered with Halo Wars and they should have either spent way more time on ODST or sold it as a $30-40 expansion to Halo 3. Selling it for $60 and saying over and over that it is not an expansion pack doesn't change that the content was worthy of an expansion and no more. One thing Bungie has become good at is acting like their fans are idiots. Firefight was a nice feature to add but it only showed how little time they spent on it as it was left with campaign multiplayer code and should have had match-making. If your going to copy another game (GoW2) at least make sure you include the necessary features when copying. Then they treat their fans like children acting as if that was purposeful or for their own good so we can "play with friends". Signing up on a forum to find a firefight game is not playing with your friends, and the title was too lame for any of my real friends to even rent. I think Bungie's success has really gone to their head with how they mock their fans ever since the "can I haz recon" bull**** - which ultimately was used as another gimmick to sell ODST. Grow up Bungie, you are not the first game dev to deal with immature fans and responding in kind and on their level does not help anything. Halo CE was a fairly mature game and the franchise seems to be turning into Mario.

yeah that's the problem with ODST. they got greedy and thought they could rip people off. When they admitted the first time the game wasn't long enough to justify a full retail price, they did the best thing ever saying it would only be like $20.

then they went and said OMG let's put the same maps that everybody already has into the game and then put in a multiplayer mode that you can't matchmake for..and then we can charge $60, win -_-.

I think Halo wars was good because they were willing to try something different so I don't blame them for that, I just blame them for thinking that I'm stupid and they could rip me off for ODST.

overall I don't think there is anything wrong with the Halo franchise. Anybody who expected Wars to sell as much as the FPS is stupid. It was an experiment to begin with and 1 million plus copies for a RTS game in a FPS seris is a very respectable sum. ODST was never going to sell as much as Halo beause it didn't have master chief and it had a stupid price.

well in my opinion they dropped the ball on halo after v2 for windows. no PC version after halo 2 and i'm not interested. its a shame i was enjoying it quite a bit too.

Halo have loss its gloss. It already is a FFVII in respect to how it is viewed: Great original. But with all these new releases, the thought that comes to mind is "Another one?".

Even 360 fanboys isn't raving about Halo much these days.

Better then GT5 and FFXIII? those are bold words! those two are guaranteed system movers with currently no "next-gen" versions of either game (GT5p doesn't really count) anticipation for them alone will be massive....whatever this guy is smoking I want some too! :P Plus there is ME2 on the 360 hitting next year as well, my bets are on that possibly getting it not Halo: Reach, but that is just my humble opinion.

I hope ME2 blows Halo away. But I doubt it will happen.

ME2 will sell, and sell good. But so will Halo regardless, and you can't talk about Reach yet when we know zero about it. Bold words? Maybe, but then he knows more than we do.

I love the characters and story line for the Halo universe, but I'm sick of all this talk from Bungie. From Halo 2 on, all they've delivered are a bunch of games that are way to short which makes it obvious the franchise is being milked. Also, I'm sick of the matchmaking system and would like a lobby so I can play the maps and types of games I want to play!

Halo 3 sold 10 mln and GT/Racing Games may have sold that in PS/PS2 era, but now?

Lets remember PS2 massive userbase compaired to the PS3.

Oh come on, Halo is a brand name like Madden, FF, Mario and so on. It's not limited to it's original game or triligy. Milking? Everyone is milking their top games. How many Marios have we gotten? Zelda? Metroid? And what is this coming out now, why yes, it's the 13th god damn Final Fantasy. Halo in comparison to these is just adding some cream to MS's coffee, not full on draining the cow.

No game in the above series tend to be groundbreaking though, besides possibly those introducing the respective brands. The companies don't dare to, but use proven recipes to not fail on their well-known brands. A new game in the Mario series may be fun for the fans, but usually a yawn for everyone else.
